MEMORIES MATTER

With just one day till the Walk to end Alzheimers, hear from MC’24 Ava Heath and why memories matter to her💜

“I lost my grandpa in October 2015, and now, 11 years later, I realize just how much the memories I have with him mean to me. When I was younger, I never realized that the fishing trips, boat rides, trips to Florida, swimming, and all the simple moments together would someday be the memories I wished I could relive. I wish I had known how precious that time was. I wish I had more time with him, more summers, more boat rides, and more ordinary days that I would now give anything to have back. One of my favorite quotes is, “Hold onto the memories, they will hold onto you,” and I think I understand that more now than I ever did. The memories are sometimes painful because they remind me that I can’t make new ones with him, but they are also what keeps him close to me. I will always wish I had more time with my grandpa, but I am so grateful for the time I did have. I’ll hold onto those memories for the rest of my life, even knowing they can never replace having him here. “
