Some stories stay with you long after the final bow. 🎭❤️

This weekend that story was Jagged Little Pill.

Watching this brilliant Off-Broadway production—directed by my former client and mentee, Lana Schwartz—was one of those full-circle moments that reminds me why I love working with young people in the arts.

A few years ago, I had the privilege of cheering Lana on as a student. Tonight, I got to watch her lead an extraordinary company of artists with confidence, heart, and remarkable vision. And making it even more special, my current mentee, Peter Brahos, was the lead guitarist in the orchestra. Watching one generation of students inspire the next was a beautiful reminder of why this work matters so much.

The performances were fearless. The storytelling was raw. And seeing so many talented young artists pour themselves into this production was incredibly moving.

Congratulations to Lana, Peter, and the entire cast, orchestra, crew, and creative team. Here’s to the next generation of theatermakers. 👏✨🎶

ohhhhhh where to begin with this one...there seriously are not enough words or pictures to express my love to this entire cast and team for their trust and support during this process. this was no doubt one of the most challenging shows i've ever had the pleasure of stepping into, but i wouldn't want to do it with anyone else!!! especially my incredibly talented roommate (& UNDERSTUDY🥹🥹🥹) @sarah.lepre who was my literal rock through it all. i just love this jagged little family and will always be grateful for yall 💙

Today, I got to see this AMAZING production of “Jagged Little Pill,” the hit musical based on the iconic Alanis Morissette (@alanis ) album with a book by Diablo Cody, produced by Nxt Generation Theatrics (@nxtgenerationtheatrics ), a theater company literally run by young adult actors and creatives ages 16-25. This version of the show completely strips back the spectacle that brought the music to life and magnifies more attention to the emotionally resonant and still timely story at the center of it, and the result, complete with mind-blowing, Broadway-caliber lighting by Ziggy Bornas (@ziggybornas ), is a production that deserves its standing ovation. The cast, particularly Derek Bedell (@derekrobertbedell ), Sarah Ford (@sarahforrdd ), Spencer Gibson Hazen (@spencergibsonhazen ), Felicity Mundy (@felicitymvndy ), Maura Dempsey (@mauraarletta ) and Ava Lane (@avalane__ ) brought the characters to life in ways I never thought possible and I definitely see them all having big futures in the industry after seeing their performances. As “Jagged Little Pill” was the last Broadway show I saw (in 2019) before the pandemic shutdown, it really did feel like a full-circle moment for me to see this story told again, this time in the hands of the next gene A cast of performers stand on a multi-level stage with scaffolding, acknowledging an audience.

What an incredible ride.

This show has found such a permanent place in my heart. Getting to tell this story night after night has been deeply healing, freeing, and incredibly meaningful for me and my journey. Getting to do it alongside this group of people made the experience even more special. We became a family so quickly, and I honestly don’t think I’ve ever clicked with a cast this instantly. The fact that we don’t get to see each other every day anymore already feels so strange. @_lanaschwartz_ , you are truly one of the greatest directors I’ve ever had the privilege of working with. Your ability to dig beneath the surface and uncover moments no one else could is something so rare. (those aren’t even my words they’re Diane Paulus’) I have absolutely no doubt the rest of the world will know your name very soon.

To this cast: I love every single one of you with my whole heart. Thank you for laughing with me, crying with me, trusting me, and creating something that I’ll carry with me forever. I hope this is only the beginning and that our paths cross again and again, because I can’t imagine wanting to create with anyone else.

I truly feel like I found my people. Until next time. Off-Broadway round 4 officially in the books!

there comes a time where a role challenges and changes you in ways you can never even imagine. MJ was that role for me. she is relentless, strong, determined, witty, and breathtaking all in one. to have stepped into her shoes and tell not only her story, but the story of many many survivors was truly an honor. this show was a marathon, vocally and emotionally and i truly enjoyed every step of the way.

to my jagged little family, thank you for grounding me and lifting me up (figuratively and literally) all at the same time. to be surrounded by such dedicated, hard working, SILLY and kind people was the cherry on top of this amazing process. the memories made during our time together will be cherished forever. a show is nothing without its community and i feel i won the jackpot with this group.

the foundation of an incredible show comes from an incredible team behind it. thank you fiona, chiara and jenna @fionamgrand @chiaradarlingg @j_newberggg for your endless support and always keeping everyone on track on and offstage, you made us whole. to sammi, your breathtaking choreography was incredible to witness, your talent knows no bounds. and our fearless leader lana, i would love to spend a day in your directing brain, you are a genius, thank you for giving me this opportunity and guiding me when i felt lost, while also giving me a voice and providing such a collaborative space, you are an inspiration and the future of this industry.

there isn’t one word i can use to describe how this show has made me feel. it was incredibly rewarding to throw my heart and soul into this part. i am forever changed

Directing this show was one of the best and most challenging experience. I am so beyond grateful to every cast and team member who worked tirelessly to make this show happen. I’m so proud of the work we all created, and thank you all for leaving your heart and soul on the stage. Thank you all for pushing me to think deeper, push my creativity, and think outside the box. This show has been one of the highlights of my life, and I can’t wait to keep making theater with my favorite people🥰
