Moments from Make Moore Moves 2026

#29 Art often speaks for itself, @iamjasminepowell
•••
And though that’s true, I’m still going to write out this caption. During the Make Moore Moves shoot, I got to watch multiple amazing performances. However this one stood out to me. @iamjasminepowell gave agency to the audience by handing 6 audience members a red ribbon, which she held the other end to. She then began he performance, and danced and maneuvered around the stage slowly recapturing the agency she gave out. It was incredible, it was improvised, and I’m so glad I was able to capture it. Absolute Art.

Swear I walked through a portal into another dimension Saturday night!

My dad built me this stand-alone door.

Similar to how he built me a dance studio in our garage.

Which is also similar to how he built the kitchen in our home that he cooks amazing meals in.

And these structures prove again and again to be the support I need in order to #keepmoving forward in my dance career.

Space is a luxury, and now I feel undeniably called to make space for other artists to keep pursuing their work too.

I’ve always had a support system, a loving family, a community to return home to. An open door, if you will.

Passing back and forth through the barriers of risk and uncertainty, my home has remained a place I can always return to. Always just the turn of a doorknob away. Always there to catch me. Always a space where I can stretch out my limbs and find repose before re-entering the unknown.

Make Moore Moves taught me to actually make more *space. It showed me why I need to ask my dad how to build, and eventually open, more doors.

Thank you to everyone who bought tickets, donated and gave me your well wishes. This show felt like a reclamation of the artist self I felt was starting to slip between the cracks, buried under mounting admin stress and crippling financial uncertainty; needing the safe haven of home I had once (ahem…or thrice) returned to.

My mission is to give back the space that has been so graciously provided to me. There’s infinite room for us to grow into! There’s unlimited potential for more artists to work together to share and shift and understand the space we occupy.

More door dances coming for sure, not exactly how, but I’m grateful for the hands that built this portal of possibility, and I’m so lucky to learn and return that wisdom to fellow art-makers and community members.

📸: @hampton.frost 🙏 photos generously donated by Mary Lou Vecchione, my mom, who never lets the memory of a beautiful space be left behind without a photo!!
