Barbershops have always been more than just a haircut. Within Black communities they’ve been spaces where real relationships are built between men, where conversations move past the surface and everyday life is spoken about openly. In these images, Black barbershops are explored beyond how they’re often seen. Not just what’s visible on the surface, but as spaces where honesty and self-expression exist. They’re shaped by routine and familiarity. People return regularly, not just out of habit, but because of the relationships they build. In many ways, they’re also connected to something deeper, a link back to Black men’s roots and the spaces that have historically held community and conversation. It’s within these moments that community is quietly formed… Photography @shotsbyeden

‘Brotherhood’ This shoot is a spin-off from my previous hair shop project, which focused on showcasing the beauty of Black women through their natural hair.💆🏾‍♀️ I wanted to recreate this concept from the perspective of men, because their stories and spaces are just as important! The aim of this shoot was to document the importance of Black barbershops, celebrating them as a pillar of Black men and their communities, And of course, I had to get my little brother and his friends involved 🤭 I couldn’t have chosen a better group of people to document this so organically.
