COAXIAL YEAR IN REVIEW:

Our September Artist-in-Residence was Ron Athey (@ronathey_4). Athey presented his two-part show ‘Our Lady of the Spasm’

Between a solo performance and a group ‘Modular Theater’ performance, sections included a vocal but non-lingual litany, fountain action, and first attempts to develop a supernatural lighting installation. Expanding, but also restricting a pivotal action to an 8 x 4-foot rectangular box (bigger than a coffin smaller than a stage).

Ron Athey invited 4 artists to make work that is both autonomous but modular to this concept: Karen Lofgren (@karenlofgren), Micaela Tobin (@white_boy_scream), Christos Tejada (@christttoss), Avery Collinsbyrd (@avery_collinsbyrd), & André Atkins (@andre.atkinss).

To help sustain Coaxial and keep the doors open for more work like this, please consider donating or joining as a member at the link in our bio. We are nearing the end of our Winter Fundraiser and need extra support to reach our goal of $12,000 dollars.

~~~Support now at the link in bio!~~~
2/4 Our Lady of the Spasm, sacred modular theatre live event Sept 30th reservations at @coaxialarts
I invited 4 artists to make work under certain themes and restrictions, with a small commission I’m still busking for! I was contacted by Avery Collins-Byrd to see her work and possibly work together. They showed up for the Long Beach Opera Film Fest screening of a Pasiphäe and walked the snake god look for me! Super thrilled to dig in deeper for Coaxial! Bio:
work.
Avery Collins-Byrd is a Los Angeles based artist attending UCLA to obtain their bachelors in art. Avery explores the ways in which sound, light scape and video aid to the intersectionalities of the complex idinties of nature, spirituality, blackness, and queerness. Focusing on the mediums of light sculpture, sound sculpture, and video installation they achieve the goal of storytelling. In 2021 they presented works including Araneidae spiders (Orb weavers), Theridiidae (cob weavers), and Atracinae (funnel weavers) exploring light in a solo show Untitled (World-wide web) sound and structure through spider webs found in nature. @avery_collinsbyrd
Our Lady (dark lady) tees are online with the indie campaign, link in bio. Raising funds for my @coaxialarts residency which starts next week and has performance dates set for Sept 25 and 30, details on that soon!
I’m cheering on my own DIY spirit for funding projects like this, “don’t fucking wait” especially if you’ve got fire under your ass!
Huge thanks and admiration to @_marioluna for these t-shirt and additional designs, deeply up my alley! And @zeina_baltagi and @coaxialarts for wanting more 🖤🖤🖤
More deets coming on participants - 4 artists plus collaborators - and how the material is taking form! In the meantime help campaign with contributions, buy a $40 tee or other perk, or reshare if you feel this spirit!
