Thirty and THRIVING! I’m so grateful for the people in my life 💖

Spent the last couple months in Dubai choreographing the water and light shows for Expo 2020. My job is pretty ridiculous - I’m handed an instrument 40 meters in diameter and have to figure out how to play it. It’s been such a wonderful challenge wrapping my head around how to go about designing with waves. There were many surprises and discoveries along the way. I don’t think anyone really understood how impactful it would be when we shot our first high pressured surges over the wall. It feels like a mighty ocean wave crashing against rocks. There’s a deafening sound that showers you in spray. Also the wind! When I first triggered a chase of waves around the basin there were such powerful gusts it felt like standing on the side of a freeway with big rigs driving by. And nothing really compares with seeing how the public engages with the fountain for the first time. A lot of the adults had their phones out, but the kids always know whatsup. They were laying down in the waves getting completely soaked and pummeled. Anyway there’s a whole lot more to share! I’m so proud to work alongside everyone at WET which is made up of an incredible team of artists, designers and engineers that brought this fountain to life. 📸@travis.chao
