Sunrise storms are brewing over Northern Pakistan, near Islamabad. 🇵🇰 We’re heading straight for it before shortly making a hard right turn south. Cruising at 35000ft over Afghanistan 🇦🇫 looking ahead into Pakistan. Opposite us, 1000ft above, a Turkish Airlines A330-300 had left Islamabad earlier heading for Istanbul. He said ‘hello’ 👋🏼 to us as we do. 💡 So we waived back. It’s 0530am so not much else to do amongst pilots. Behind it you can see another contrail incoming at FL380. It was a 777, couldn’t identify the airline. We heard a Garuda Indonesia 🇮🇩 on frequency that was heading to my hometown Amsterdam. I recognized the flight number. #avgeek 🫡 Turns out that opposite 777 was not Garuda. I think Garuda didn’t notice the KABUL FIR NOTAM stating all aircraft to not overfly Kabul but instead offset 8 miles between certain points. Oopsie 🫣 We came from Dushanbe, Tajikistan. 🇹🇯 It’s a 3.5hr flight from Dubai. Only one aircraft movement during the time we were there. Beautiful weather so we decide to depart in the opposite direction, away from all the high terrain. Cabin secure took some more time to complete as our taxi out time was really short and the cabin was full. Now imagine the airport being in a valley surrounded by high terrain…at night. Departing Westbound is your preference here. Next up; Kathmandu🇳🇵#pilot #flydubai #Boeing737 #dushanbe
