Sara Hussein asked us a question: What comes to mind through music, art, and poetry when you think about human rights?

I said, "Fela."

Fela Kuti sang what people were too afraid to say out loud. His songs still reveal the truth about power today, years after he sang them. That is what art does when under pressure. It does not die when they try to silence it. It just becomes louder later.

That question opened our fifth Youth Development Program session under the Awareness 360 Fellowship, titled "Gender Justice and Freedom of Expression in a Changing World." Our guest, Sara Hussein, is a Senior Advocate at the Supreme Court of Bangladesh and Honorary Executive Director of the Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust. She came straight from launching a collection of songs from the July uprising in Bangladesh.

Other fellows shared their own examples. Pro-democracy songs in Myanmar. Protest poems from places where saying the wrong words can put you in danger. It became clear that art is not just decoration on a human rights struggle. It is often the memory of that struggle, kept alive when courts and laws fail people. We talked about the difference between rights written down and rights people actually have. We talked about the gender segregation in Afghanistan, where girls still cannot go to school. We talked about internet shutdowns in Gaza, Myanmar, and Kashmir, and how they are rarely about protecting people. They are about making sure no one is watching.ing.

Sara's advice as we start our Social Action Projects next month: build cross-country support. Connect with people in different countries and different political situations. Pick one song or image and let it carry your message. Mine is already picked.

I’m excited to share that I’ve been selected as one of 500 youth leaders worldwide for the @awareness_360 fellowship

Over the next six months, I’ll be joining an inspiring global community of changemakers, developing a Social Action Project that contributes to advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Through mentorship, expert-led masterclasses, and collaboration with fellow youth leaders from around the world, I’m looking forward to strengthening my skills and turning ideas into meaningful impact.

As someone passionate about sustainability, social entrepreneurship, youth empowerment, and creating opportunities for communities, I’m grateful for this opportunity to learn, connect, and contribute on a global scale.

It's impact o'Clock.

Today, I'll be speaking on "Fundamentals of Fundraising for Social Impact", to approximately 500 young changemakers from over 93 countries across 6 continents, at the 2026 Youth Development Programme (YDP), an initiative of Awareness 360. @awareness_360

Awareness 360 is a global youth-led, Forbes 30 Under 30-listed non-profit that has empowered young people across 100+ countries and directly impacted over 5 million lives. They provide youth with skills and tools to organise community development projects to support the UN SDGs.

Funny story before I share the actual lessons 🙂

The day this @awareness_360 session held live, I couldn't join. Zoom refused to let me in through the browser, kept insisting I download the app first, and by the time that whole process finished, they were almost done. I literally watched the meeting end helplessly couldn't watch anything.

But big thanks to the @awareness_360 team for recording it, because I didn't miss out after all. This week I finally sat down, notebook in hand (one gifted to me by my friend Salem, more on what he wrote in it another time), and listened properly.

And honestly, it was worth the wait. The session was on leading with integrity and values by Mrs Janelle Williams, and here's what stuck with me:

Every decision you make is practice. Not a one-off thing, practice for the kind of leader you're becoming, whether you notice it or not.

Values aren't decorations you wear to sound good. They're tools. And using them right will cost you something, sometimes comfort, sometimes approval, sometimes just being right.

Integrity has three parts: Voice (saying what actually matters, even if it's just asking a hard question), Visibility (doing something about it, not just talking), and the Identity all those choices quietly build in you over time.

The compass she gave for tough moments: What's really happening here? What value is being tested? What choice actually reflects that value? And who am I practicing becoming through this?

But the line that really got me: integrity is what you do when nobody's watching. Not when the mic's on.

Building @peacevoyageofficial right now, still early days, still mostly quiet work behind the scenes, this landed different. Success isn't always the applause. Sometimes it's just seeds you're planting that nobody sees yet.

Glad I didn't let a Zoom download error rob me of this one.

In just five years, Afghan women have seen classrooms close, careers erased, and freedoms stripped away. A generation’s future is being rewritten, and by 2030, Afghanistan could lose more than 25,000 female teachers and healthcare workers if these restrictions continue. When women lose their rights, a nation loses its future.

Just about three months late but here are my top 3 highlights from the 10-Year Reunion Week in China 🇨🇳

1. 1,500+ people being flown into Beijing from across the world to stay at a 5-star hotel and basically have fun all day for a whole week 🫠 Alumni, professors, mentors, speakers, staff… and I finally got to meet my whole class in person 💜 Still overwhelmed by the scale of it all. Only possible by @schwarzmanscholars

2. Hearing the President of Tsinghua University suddenly mention me during his speech at the official reunion event and give me a shoutout as an exemplary alumna for my work with @awareness_360 😭 I genuinely froze for a second like wait… why is he talking about me?! And to be highlighted in a room full of some of the most inspiring people from around the world was such an honour. Some friends immediately texted to show support, confirming I did not mishear it lol.

3. Spending the last evening at Lingling’s family home. Her parents had apparently been preparing incredible home-cooked food for weeks for 40+ people, including a special vegetable brought from over 1000 km away. Everything was ridiculously delicious and it just felt so wholesome. It was my first time visiting a Chinese home and experiencing that kind of hospitality firsthand. We ended the evening singing karaoke together, and even her parents joined in 😭 Massive thank you to Lingling, Brian, and family for hosting all of us with so much warmth and generosity.

Still processing this entire week as I am scrolling through my gallery and feeling very grateful for the people this program brought into my life.
