Some rooms require a different version of you. Not a lesser version — a more disciplined one.
Friday I played Masters of Spin at Radiant Studio. A casino environment. Corporate-level production. And every detail reminded me why this work demands more than just good music.
Here’s what that room taught me — and what every DJ moving toward this level needs to understand:
You are not just a DJ. You are talent on a corporate property.
The dress code isn’t a suggestion. Your appearance is part of the contract before you ever touch the decks. Press your clothes. Represent the room you’re walking into — not the last one you left.
Load-in time is not arrival time.
In a casino environment, there are security protocols, staff check-ins, and production timelines that exist whether you’re ready or not. Being on time means being early. Being early means being prepared. Prepared talent gets rebooked.
A corporate room reads differently.
You’re not playing to a crowd that came specifically for you. You’re playing to guests who came for the experience — and your job is to become part of that experience so seamlessly they don’t know where the room ends and the music begins. That requires listening before leading.
Communication with staff is part of your performance.
Event coordinators, floor managers, security — these are your colleagues for the night. How you communicate with them is noted. How you respond to last-minute changes is remembered. Professionalism isn’t just what happens behind the decks.
The stage got bigger. The protocol got tighter. And I was ready.
That’s the standard Lux Listenings holds — for ourselves and every artist we place.
If you’re a decision-maker looking for talent that understands the room before they enter it — this is who we are.

The room stood still for this moment.

Thank you Kristen Lowe @kristenilycia__ for sharing your incredible voice and heart in honor of Kevin Ross. Your performance reminded us that music has the power to hold memory, love, and legacy all at once.

2016 was golden for a reason.
Mentally. Emotionally. Professionally.
I revisited those moments while unpacking Jill Scott’s ✨GOLDEN✨ on the newest of #WhenIFirstHeard
Full circle. New episode on the last slide.
