Yesterday, in Venice, life became surreal. For fourteen years, I have carried your music with me. Fourteen years of songs, images, fashion, ideas and memories that somehow became part of my own life. And yesterday, on what should have been an ordinary day at work, I looked up and you were there @asaprocky the same person I first discovered fourteen years ago through “National Anthem” was suddenly standing in front of me in Venice. I froze. You smiled because you knew I recognized you, and I was trying to understand how fourteen years of admiration could suddenly exist in a single moment. I asked for a photograph. You kindly asked me to keep the moment private. You wanted to experience Venice without being surrounded or watched, and even though a part of me broke knowing I might never have a picture with you, I put my phone away. Because sometimes loving someone’s art also means respecting the person behind it. So instead, I talked to you. I told you about discovering your music fourteen years ago and about seeing you perform in Milan just a month before. I showed you some of the photos I had taken that night, and for a few minutes, the person I had admired from a distance for so many years was simply there, listening. I gave you a little canvas from the gallery where I work. On the back I had written: “Your biggest fan. Debora, Italy.” You put it in your bag, thanked me, gave me an autograph, hugged me and called me “sweetheart.” I still don’t have a photograph of us. But I have your handwriting on a piece of paper. I have the memory of you taking something I made with my own hands. And I have a moment I will carry with me for the rest of my life. Fourteen years ago, I discovered your art through a music video. Yesterday, completely by chance, I met you in Venice. Somewhere between those two moments, I became the person I am today: working in an art gallery in Venice, studying art history, and still being that girl who gets emotional listening to the music that changed her life. Thank you for yesterday, Rocky. I respected your privacy then, and I will continue to. I hope our paths cross again someday maybe next time as the two fashion killas we are!💗
