12 years ago, Axel joined Denver City Lax and picked up his first stick.

Today, he’s entering his senior year at the University of Colorado Leeds School of Business and just wrapped up his second year interning at Northmarq Commercial Real Estate.

Axel has accomplished a lot over those 12 years, but maybe most importantly, he’s built relationships that have opened doors. His lacrosse connections helped lead to his internship at Northmarq, where his work ethic and contagious positivity have made an impression. Now, he’s hoping to join the Northmarq team full time after graduating next spring.

A huge thanks to Dave Link, JJ Rutherford and everyone else who helped make this opportunity possible.

This is one of many examples of what we hope City Lax can be: a long term community that helps young kids grow from lacrosse players into confident young adults ready for whatever comes next.

From the first stick to the next chapter. ❤️🥍

For the past 13 years Big City Mountaineers has been connecting City Lax participants with the outdoors through weeklong backpacking trips in the wilderness. This year, BCM presented City Lax with the Bridge to Adventure award highlighting our collaborative efforts to expose kids to transformative outdoor experiences. City Lax Alums Axel and Jareth accepted the award on behalf of City Lax. Both have been past participants on BCM trips and this year Jareth returned as a City Lax lead chaperone on a trip. Thanks to BCM for the years of making the outdoors accessible.

Meet Axel 🤝

“My name is Axel Hernandez, and I’m currently a junior at the University of Colorado Leeds School of Business, studying Finance and Real Estate as a first in family college attendee. This past summer, I interned with Northmarq, where I gained valuable experience in commercial real estate.

I started with City Lax in the 3rd grade and since then my opportunities have skyrocketed. Through City Lax, I learned the value of hard work and teamwork, received one-on-one academic support, traveled the world, visited numerous colleges, and even participated in outdoor challenges such as backpacking trips and much more.”

JOIN US at the City Lax Gala on Wednesday, February 18 to meet City Lax participants like Axel and hear firsthand how their experiences with Denver City Lax have impacted them.

Tickets, sponsorships, and more info in our bio.
