POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

First time competing troupes at Southstreet Ballarat. It was a lot of fun. I wasn’t too great at taking photos this time- Axel hid in the boys change area and missed a few. 😂 Our change room was right next to the library which had nice comfy chairs. There were a lot of stairs getting up to the audience- we all got our steps up. I climbed 13 flights of stairs yesterday and 14000 steps according to my app!

They did well- dancing across a number of age levels, placing 1st for Open Age Tap, 17&U Tap, 13&U Tap, 13&U Hip Hop, 13&U Song & Tap, 17&U Song & Tap, and 15&U Jazz; 2nd for 13&U Song & Dance, 15&U Song & Dance, 17&U Jazz, 17&U Song & Dance, 17&U Hip Hop, 17&U Contemporary, and Open Age Jazz; 3rd for 17&U Lyrical; and HM for 13&U Lyrical, 13&U Jazz, and 15&U Lyrical.

Ballet exams this morning. Zuriyah’s last ballet exam! She said she was doing ok up until the last 10 minutes when she had to put her pointe shoes on. She put them on the wrong feet... 🤦🏼‍♀️ It makes for a good story.

Axel didn’t say much at all about his exam- which is pretty standard for him.

Book week 2026! Paddington Bear, the White Rabbit from Alice in Wonderland (kudos to Aaliyah for pulling that together quickly for Axel), and a smurf (who still needs to apply the blue paint which was apparently happening at school). Final Book Week costume for Aaliyah. 💙 #bookweek #costumes #dressingupisfun

First troupe comp of the year! 2 long days with 26 costume changes. All troupes danced well. Both children love being part of SLD and their continued improvement is a credit to their teachers. A highlight was winning both the 17&U and Open Age Tap troupe sections- Axel’s favourites! I enjoyed dressing Axel as Pinnochio too- although he perhaps did not enjoy this as much. :) Well done to all the team members for giving their all. Thank you to the teacher’s as well for the amazing choreography and time put in to making this all happen. @sldancers @born_to_perform_comdance_vic

Happy Thursday!

I guess Axel (@axel_tap_dance) answered this week’s Monday Discussion question (see pinned!) with a video. Instead of telling us what colors he would choose for his custom tap shoes, he decided to SHOW us! 💜🖤

It’s currently late spring down in Axel’s native Australia which, if you’re in the northern hemisphere like I am, feels a little weird to be associating flowers and butterflies with Santa Claus and that Mariah Carey Christmas song that just doesn’t seem to go away. Start your day with a promotional offer from @blochau; use promo code AXE10 when you buy a Bloch product this holiday season!

Axel’s Casey experience 2025- and a little bit of Zuriyah. He did well. The highlight was winning the Senior Tap Championship! He also won Song & Dance, Song & Tap, and Tap. And he was awarded 2nd place for his Theatrical Champ. Both Axel and Zuriyah were invited back to repeat their highest scoring dance in the Scholarship Section. This section is made up of the top scoring 8 or 9 dancers of the whole competition. Axel was asked to repeat his Tap, and Zuriyah her Song & Tap. The comp ended with Axel winning the RU Aggregate for his age group. ❤️
