Just a kid selling lemonaid from local lemons
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
I’m told that lemons are at their peak in winter and today is the winter solstice.
Great time for a call out for lemons. 🍋

Learning from the youngest, brightest business people in our area, Axl Arens with a call to action, see below.

Many of you will know Axl because you taught him, went to school with him, or possibly, like some of us, drank his delicious home-made lemonade at @eatmerimbula or @wandererfestival

We met up with young Axl Arens earlier this month to hear about what he’s up to. Axl arrived 5 minutes before his mum, Cristina, and we had a lovely chat about life and school. What surprised me the most after our meet up, is that after only six years in business, his micro business has donated to 9 different causes, one of which was more than once.

Way to go, Axl!

Here’s what he told us!

Q: How did Axl’s lemonade stand come to be?

A: It started out when I was 8 years old. We had a lemonade stand on a street corner near our home.

Q: When was your first stand after that?

A: It was at the local Merimbula Eat Festival (@eatmerimbula) in 2020 (which had its beginnings in 2013). Because all of the lemons were donated, and I didn’t have any of my own personal funds, we decided to donate some of the profits. That first year we donated to a woman who lost her home in the bushfire, Annemike.

Sadly, like many others, she lost not only her home but all of her plants and animals in the 2019 bushfires. My dad used her micro herbs for his catering business (@free.range.catering) so we donated to her so she could have funds to purchase tools and materials to rebuild her house.

Q: How do you decide who to donate to and who else have you donated to, I know the list is long!

A: Usually my parents help me select groups or people who are deserving.

Here’s the list of recipients so far, in no particular order: Annemieke, Skate Park Merimbula, Local boy with no immune system, local family whose unborn baby needed medical help, rare cancer Australia, Headspace Bega (3x), Potoroo Palace, The Social Justice Advocates, Australian Marine Conservation Society.
