⁨ ⁨ ⁨ ⁨ ⁨ ⁨ ⁨ ⁨ ⁨ ⁨ ⁨ ⁨ ⁨ ⁨ ⁨ החיבור בין הצילומים האיקוניים, האינטימיים והקטנים יחסית, העוסקים בדיוקנאות ובשולי החברה, של דיאן ארבוס ובין החלל העצום והמונומנטלי של הארמורי אינו מובן מאליו. המיצב שנבנה בחלל ואופן תליית העבודות מבקשים להפעיל את הצופה המשוטט, המתבונן בדיוקנאות המביטים בו בחזרה. סידור החלל באופן הזה הופך את נוכחותם של מבקרים נוספים בתערוכה לחלק מהמיצב. המבט תועה גם אליהם, עיניים פוגשות עיניים. מדי פעם את מגלה שאת מישירה מבט אל עצמך, שכן בין העבודות משובצות מראות.
תרגיל מעניין באיך להציג אוסף דימויים שהשתרש (לפחות בחלקו) היטב בזכרון הקולקטיבי באור חדש.

רשיד ג׳ונסון חוקר את סביבתו החומרית, האסתטית, התרבותית והאינטלקטואלית, כל אלו מתגבשים אצלו לשפה ויזואלית מובהקת עם אלמנטים שחוזרים על עצמם, נדחסים לתוך העבודות וצוברים משמעות תוך התמדה וחזרתיות. זוהי תערוכה שבה המבנה הייחודי של הגוגנהיים מופעל באופן שמעביר את הצופה תהליך חוויתי. ממליצה להתחיל מלמטה, לקראת החלק העליון השפה הופכת להיות עשירה והנרטיבים נפתחים ומעמיקים. ממרומי הגוגנהיים מבינים משהו על הזהות של ג׳ונסון בתור אמריקאי שנטוע בתרבות השחורה העכשווית ובתרבות המערב הבורגנית, או לפחות משהו על האסתטיקה הגברית נוטפת הסטייל שלו.

I’ve decided my new decade begins now. My key words for this decade are healthy, hope, and possibilities. While we had so many great moments, and my kids grew up this past decade, it was filled with illness and unhealthy situations. While life and our family is still filled with sadness, anger and is far from perfect, I will continue to do everything to provide hope and endless possibilities.

Thanks to everyone for your love and birthday wishes. I’ve had a great few days, and have more to come. I now love small gatherings, rather than larger ones. I love time and conversations and laughing with those I love. I love all of my work, the people I work with and trying to make a small difference in this crazy world.

Thanks to my friends, for helping us smile just a bit this past year. For checking in, for coming over, for all the love to me and the boys. The only thing missing from this year’s celebration was Jaron at college, but it’s all ok knowing he’s been doing what he loves, performing and creating.

I plan to work more, travel more, laugh more and love more this year and decade. I hope you all do too.

Please make all of your doctor appointments for the next year now. Please do something that scares you or you’ve been wanting to do. I know I will…..

Today we marked the one-year anniversary of October 7th with a special art collaboration, Shelter in Peace/Sukkat Shalom.

As we explored the sukkah, we reflected on the themes of loss, hope, and renewal and shared our hopes for peace in the upcoming year.

Over the course of one week, two artists from the Gaza envelope, Bat El Elfasi and Mor Peled, and two artists from the Jewish community in New York City, Gal Cohen and Deborah Wasserman, collaborated in a shared studio while engaging in open dialogue about the impact of the terrorist attacks and how to move forward. The artists brough their unique styles and techniques, utilizing mixed media, painting, digital imagery, and photography. The result: a physical sukkah inspired by the Hebrew phrase, “Sukkat Shalom.” This art collaboration was curated by Aya Goshen.
