High school camp 2024 changed everything for me. I came in to camp with tons of baggage and was ready for a fresh start with the Lord. Throughout camp we were taught to be more like Jesus and I believe that I learned the true meaning behind that. I met tons of people who have made me a better person throughout camp, and supported me all the way. At first I was very shy about speaking out during Life Groups and was nervous of what others would think of me. By the end of camp, I was speaking in all the Life Groups and Debriefs after session and ended up telling my group all I was going through. They supported me and made me feel so welcomed and comforted. One debrief that we had, at the end of it my leaders told us to pray for someone in our group and share what was one thing we are guilty of. I was very nervous about this because I felt like no one had such terrible baggage I was carrying with me and that I would get judged. With a pick of a card, I was brought to a girl in my cabin that was guilty of the same thing I was. It was definitely a God thing because out of all the girls I could’ve matched cards with, it ended up being the girl that had the same baggage as me. At first I was going to keep what I was guilty of as a secret, but once she became vulnerable I also became vulnerable. I’m glad that we prayed over each other and got to tell each other what we’re guilty of with no judgement at all because after that I didn’t feel so alone. During worship I found a song I loved so much and I truly felt like I could give my all to Jesus during it. I felt weight lifted off my shoulders while that song played and felt like it was just Jesus and I in that moment. Church camp has changed me for the better and I would recommend going to it, as it will bring you closer to the Lord and allow you to create a christian community. As camp wraps up I would like to say that I wouldn’t be where I am now without the girls that stuck with me through thick and thin and the pastors that never gave up on me.
