Concrete 🌹 :

This collection is more than just fabric and fashion—it’s my story.

When I first stepped into college, graduation felt like a distant dream. I didn’t come in with big expectations—I just wanted to find my place, meet good people, and learn how to bring my ideas to life through sewing. But four years later, I’ve become a designer shaped by adversity, long nights, and moments I wasn’t sure I’d make it through.

As a little Black girl, I was always told I’d have to work twice as hard to get half as far. That truth echoed through every sketch, every stitch, every sleepless night that built this collection. Concrete is a reflection of that journey—the struggle, the grit, and the strength it took to rise anyway.

I’ve grown. I’ve stumbled. I’ve sacrificed. But I wouldn’t change a thing. Every challenge became the foundation I bloomed from. And for that, I’m endlessly grateful.

There’s a quote that carried me through:

“If you want a thing bad enough
to go out and fight for it,
to work day and night for it,
to give up your time, your peace and your sleep for it…
If all that you dream and scheme is about it,
and life seems useless and worthless without it…
If you gladly sweat for it and fret for it and plan for it
and lose all your terror of the opposition for it…
If you simply go after that thing that you want
with all your capacity,
strength and sagacity,
faith, hope and confidence and stern pertinacity,
with the help of God—you will get it.”
— Les Brown
This is only the beginning.
Thank you to everyone who helped me get here.

#FutureSaluki Aydin Hogan from St. Louis, MO will be attending #SIU this fall studying Nursing. 🏥🐾

Why did you choose #SIUC? 🏫📚

“I chose SIU because it is my mom’s alma mater and it is the perfect distance from home. I look forward to making new friends, getting involved around campus, and perhaps finding joy in some of the same things that my mom did when she attended 💗.”

We can’t wait to see you on campus Aydin and are excited to welcome you to the #SalukiFamily!
