Di·vine: of, from or like God(dess), or a God. Tim·ing: a particular point or period of time when something happens. =. “God Happened”. I had to pivot this second show. It worked out. I had to book new musicians. They obliged. I had to revise the script(AGAIN). They Produced. I cried and panicked in private. They held me down in public. I was low on confidence. They lifted me. I was well over my budget for production 2. They sponsored a few things. And these six beautiful souls made it happen. THANK YOU AINT ALWAYS ENOUGH! It’s the first Saturday of August. It’s time to get FUNKY 🔥 TONITE!! We are thrilled to be kicking off this amazing series with Lionel J. Nelson & The Grizzlies ft. BrNa Here’s a little about the bassist who’s been sweeping St. Louis off its feet fret by fret: BOBBY “BEARY” JAY Bobby Jay was born and raised in the city of Miami Gardens, South Florida. Having being born into music, Bobby grew up learning several instruments, however the bass quickly became his main interest. Things changed when he suddenly moved to St. Louis in November of 2021 with his best friend, and powerhouse singer, brNa (BrNa Hernandez). Bobby had nothing but a suitcase and a bass guitar ready to start his new journey. Since then, he has performed on numerous stages around the city, including festivals, and with local artists such as Bo Dean, Cook Crvk and many more. One of his biggest musical achievements was joining Kinfolk and Them as their lead bassist. People around him would describe his music as alternative. Bending the genres of jazz, soul, and Funk! Bobby “Beary” Jay has quickly become one of St. Louis’ premier, and sought after bassists. The FunKtion is ecstatic to showcase a bass led outfit, containing some of the areas finest musical craftmen (& woman 😉). With inspirations such as MonoNeon, and Thundercat, guests can expect pocket grooves combined with soulful, electric vocals, and body movin’ bass lines. And of course! Top shelf drink specials & late night eats you’ve come to love - kitchen open until MIDNIGHT* DOORS: 9:30 Cover: $15 ⚡️
