These four Brittle Paper Original Writings move through the spaces between people, and all that is felt but goes unnamed.

Ayiyi Joel’s PLEA addresses the orishas directly, asking for protection at the start of a life still figuring itself out. Naa Asheley Ashitey’s GENESIS lies in a bed that will not warm, reaching upward with a hand that has nearly stopped believing. Mutsa Mambo’s WHAT REMAINS BETWEEN US, UNNAMED puts two people at an airport with everything already decided and nothing yet said. And Nadia Ahidjo’s LETTER TO MA CHÉRIE NDEYE writes toward a sister across years of silence and a question that has been sitting unanswered: what would you write about if you couldn’t write about pain?

Issue #7: Somewhere, I Am

It’s true that art stems from everywhere, but for Pena’s seventh issue, we asked submitters to use six photographs as their compass to take us somewhere we haven’t been before. From them, poems, stories, and essays have emerged that most overwhelmingly ground us in the reality of our presence, the weight of our impact on this world—no matter how transient.

You can read the entire issue via the link in our bio. Hope you enjoy reading it as much as we enjoyed putting it together.

Do tell us what you think in the comments below and share it with folks who might enjoy reading these pieces.

[literary magazine, litmag, penalitmag, poetry, fiction, short stories, essays, book reviews, storytelling, identity, presence, creativity]

I wrote this flash fiction not too long ago, and submitted it to a magazine....but *unfortunately* I got a rejection mail. So, I thought, “Instead of keeping the story to myself, why don't I just share it with you guys?” It's also been A LONG WHILE since I posted a story. When I was about to post this story, I remembered a tweet I saw on @thepottv quite a while ago, and it just made me think of my story, so I added the tweet for you all to read as well.

So, please, ENJOY! And leave a comment. It means a lot to me to know what you guys think. Don't forget to share on your stories and with your friends! Thank youuuu!!! ☺️🖤
