An amazing night to wrap up an amazing year. Thank you to my family, friends, and mentors that have been with me through Highschool!

23 days away from graduation, and I still cannot believe I’m done with my entire colorguard journey at Emerson High School. In my mind I still feel like I’m the same freshman who hated guard, only wanted a PE credit, and never wanted to get better. So much has changed within me, this program, the guard closet (which is still like 3 by 4 feet), the members, and the culture of the team. I couldn’t be more grateful to have witnessed this development over the past 4 years.

Never in a million years would I have thought that something that exhausts me 24/7, keeps me behind in school, has me dancing to cotton eye joe 2-3 times a week, gives me painful sunburns, makes me wear layers of makeup, or even make my toenail fall out would be one of the best things that has ever happened to me. I cannot even express how grateful I am for this activity. It’s a feeling that nobody will understand until they join the program- especially this one.

It saddens me to know I’m never going to mark another set in chalk again, hear the words ‘gush and go,’ have an ugly sock tan line ever again, perform in the Emerson HS main gym, or do cotton eye joe with my favorite people. All of these stupid memories, and yet it's these that are more valuable to me than winning any medal, trophy, or award. Believe it or not, “it's the little things in life that matter most,” is a true statement.

I’ve always wished time away so that I could “just graduate already,” and now that the time has come, I wish I was back to square one, learning how to do a pop toss without crashing out. My biggest advice that nobodyyyy asked for: never ever wish your time away. You have 4 years, so maximize every moment. Each one is so meaningful.

Thank you to Mafuyu, the most supportive and sweetest person that I know. You are going in the history books for sure, miss 4 year captain. You are so inspirational to me and everybody else in this program, even the freshmen who have never met you. Thank you for your patience, I don’t think I’ve ever asked so many questions to 1 single person. I love you mafoop 🙁
