🎚🔊 recent hiphop dj/mc/graff on the Ohio river, see @smash.the.banks for graff pix 💥

Love these kind of events (even when they're legal, that's how much) I don't even know how many pieces got painted Saturday, it was a lot. Music sounded great all day, and it was recorded too.

We got hit by a couple storms which tripped things up. You can see the first set up where DJ Jazznosis is in front of those big metal beams. Was going great til sudden intense wind came blowing dust over everything, then horizontal rain turning it all to mud and blowing over tables. The mixer flew off a table yet stayed functioning and the music didn't stop. But with rain pouring into my laptop and electronics quickly covered in mud, we had to take an intermission.

The sun came back out, and while things def got fucked up we just let it all dry out then I set up a 2nd time under one of the bridges with the more vulnerable gear in the back of a car. This worked really well. Got through most of the scheduled music before a much more intense storm hit. Closed the trunk, put plastic bags over the speakers and waited it out. This was at like 7pm so nearly the end of the 11 to 8 event.

It honestly feels pretty good anytime I can get away with running an outdoor soundsystem under difficult conditions. Definitely remember times in 2020 it stayed on during significant storms, during the Sam DuBose memorial in particular.

But the gear has been used really hard for quite a while and this time was the prompt letting me know it's time for another inventory of actually still reliable cables, speakers, etc. My mics have been falling apart the past couple years. The mixer's power supply is dodgy. The horns and woofers on those BR-12's used all over town (all over the continent when you count touring) aren't sounding as clear as they used to. I gotta do some damage assessment before events start to come up and nothing is functional.

It's just the nature of doing stuff outdoors, and worth the types of risks involved, but damn you'll have to forgive me if I'm on my annoying hu$$tle in order to replace nece$$ary equipment in the coming weeks.

Much love to @smash.the.banks and local hiphop! 🎤💯
