What a great way to start the week off!!! Congratulations to my fellow Mississippian, Jackson State alum 🐯, cousin/friend for closing on her beautiful new construction home in Heartland, TX! For her being a first time home buyer under 30, let me say being proud is an understatement! You came to me in May and said “I’m tired of renting. What can I do to start the process?!” Here we are two months later!! It was a journey and you trusted the process!! I’m so excited for you, Hadyen, and Luna!!! I started The Solely Greatness Community Team during the summer of 2017. The initial goal was to help college students band together to get community service hours but also, impact the community in ways that many never have been considered. Jackson State has a list of community service places that can be attended but many do not capitalize on that. So we started doing service at a nursing home, a daycare, and an animal shelter, all from that list. After time, we have ventured to the Jackson Zoo, fed the homeless at Gateway Rescue Mission, adopted a highway, hosted a nursing home pageant, and hosted a college tour to write letters to individuals in nursing homes. The work we have done since 2017 has been fulfilling to me and it is something I would’ve never expected to happen. My goal has been achieved but it is far more things to do and work to be done. The Solely Greatness Community Team will now be more community-oriented and focus on specific matters of the community that needs to be addressed while still helping students get hours. To my board of directors, thank you for pushing me in ways I didn’t know I could be pushed. To my original 22, thank you for starting the rollercoaster with me. To my team leaders, thank you for the sacrifices you made for the betterment of this organization. To all of my current and former members, thank you for the hard work you have done for this organization. To Portia Junius, thank you for giving me an idea of what I was born to do. And to my First Lady, thank you for being with me when the world was on my shoulders. I am Dreshon Sanders, alumni of Jackson State University and founder of The Solely Greatness Community Team Non-Profit Organization, and I am happy, blessed, and grateful that my team could bring this many smiles to people in the Jackson, MS area this far. Let’s keep making the world, and more specifically Jackson State and Jackson, MS, a fun, safe, and healthy environment.
