🌀 Coming to 5026 Telegraph Ave Oakland this Autumn…Serpent Song Tattoo

Tattooing is a time-honored human practice shared across the world. Just as in the days of Old, today the choice to be tattooed evokes personal experience, self determination, and participation in ancestral linage.

Established in 2020, our mission at Serpent Song Tattoo is to foster a future centered around human creativity and interconnectedness and honor the history and integrity of our practice. Our artists craft each tattoo with intention and skill; created to make each bearer feel more authentic in their skin. We believe that tattooing is not merely a transactional act of service, but a transformative process of radical self expression.

Opening in the Autumn of 2026 at 5026 Telegraph Ave, Oakland, we will be offering cultural tattooing, body piercing, esoteric goods, and folk arts. See ya’ll there 🤘

ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: @az.inkz

Ariana, who goes by their initials, AZ, is a lover of dualities. Their tattoos are made in the in-betweens: powerful and soft, reverent and joyful, bold and precise.

AZ inks in service of the human body and spirit. Topics of interest and inspiration include Chinese cosmology and philosophy, cultural patterns and heritage design, and all things spiky and poisonous.

AZ will be leading our new location opening in Temescal this fall

Cierra getting the @couchdate 🐆 emblem tattooed on her arm by @az.inkz at @serpentsongtattoo

In case you didn’t know, this fall @serpentsongtattoo will be moving to Telegraph Ave right next door to couchdate!! @az.inkz is one of the owners and would love to tattoo you

Background: Jaguars and leopards (also known as panthers) represent royalty, courage, power, war, grace, and the spirit world. Just a couple notable figures are Tepeyollotl, a jaguar god from Mesoamerica and Mafdet, an Egyptian goddess who has a feline form and wears the skin of a leopard.

Emmanuel, the founder of couchdate, has deep cultural roots in Asia, South America, the Caribbean, and West Africa - so jaguars/leopards have always been significant for him. The choice to make the @couchdate emblem a big cat was much more a decision lead by intuition than anything else. Serpent Song founder @edward.sanzuwu contributed significantly to the design, so it was only right that the tattoo happen at his shop

In solidarity with the nationwide general strike against ICE and and all those complicit tomorrow Friday January 30th, we’ll still be open regular hours @atxmosaicworkshop 11a-6p but to hold space for those wanting to express themselves creatively, offering FREE🖕🧊 🌈 mosaics all day fueled by our compadres tacos from @paprikaatx and coffee from @houndstoothcoffee while supplies last!

We suggest anyone wanting to donate $$ to @casamarianella @elbuenaustin or @batcityjailsupport

Use your art, voice and your pocketbook as your power tomorrow and always. Support our friends and neighbors who are in danger and those in need. So if you’re not at work, school or shopping tomorrow - why not come make mosaics?!

“During dark times, will there be singing? Yes, there will be singing…about the dark times.” — Bertolt Brecht ❤️‍🩹 Find your way to sing and sing as loud as you can with your whole chest. Art has always been my favorite way to sing. From chaos comes creation.

Silence hurts. I’m tired of everyone not talking about what’s happening. As a blogger we need to use our platforms to speak up. What’s happening in the US is crazy. The murdering of Renee good and Alex Pretti in Minnesota is weighing heavy on me. Let alone the fact our neighbors here in Austin are being snatched up by ICE. You cannot say you support the local restaurant community here and say you also support ICE.
I hope my courage to speak up and post motivates others to do the same. Graphic from talented @az.inkz ! #atx #austinfoodadventures #atxfoodtime #fuckice
