Went to the CHULO premiere and left with one thought: we need more of this.

A Latino film about gay love, a room full of queer people who finally saw themselves on screen. Everyone I talked to said the same thing, there just isn’t enough.

THE WHISPER is my attempt to add to that shelf. Salvador and his daughter are the heart of it. Julián and Jesús are the love story I’m not going to make small.

Congrats to the CHULO team. More of us. More of our stories.

Trust the process. 🌟

From hundreds of submissions to self-tapes, in-person auditions, and table reads, these two remarkable souls brought their hearts to every moment. They treated the script with such care, fully embodying their characters. The chemistry they shared was electric, and it truly brought CHULO to life.

A heartfelt thank you to both of them for their unwavering trust and commitment. A special shoutout to @thehectorres , my amazing casting associate, for his invaluable support throughout this journey. And of course, THANK YOU to @azarlux for allowing me to be part of this beautiful story he crafted and directed, I’m honored.

This project means the world to me and everyone involved, and it’s evident in every frame. Here’s to the magic of CHULO 2026! 😎🫶🏽

This past weekend, director Alex Orea @azarlux premiered his latest short film, Chulo. In celebration of the film’s premiere, Alex and the team behind the short hosted Casa Chulo, a screening event featuring original art installations by Alex Orea, photography by @aaronshothis, DJ sets by Branded and Alex himself, and clothing from LA-based designers, @elfinhq

Chulo is Alex’s love letter to Los Angeles and Mexican culture. The story follows two taqueria workers, (played by Germain and Christian), who develop an unexpected and deeply moving connection with one another. “Los Angeles is a city where Mexican culture runs deep, woven into the streets, sounds, and spirit of everyday life,” says Alex.

We sat down with Alex ahead of the premiere to talk about his creative process and how he brought Chulo to life.
