@narcynarce has spent more than two decades building the kind of résumé where the names around him tell you how respected he is without anybody needing to announce it. From Euphrates through Fear of an Arab Planet, The Narcicyst, Nargisee, World War Free Now!, SpaceTime, Love & Chaos, Meme Against the World and now TO BE AN (ARAB), he carved out a lane for an Iraqi voice in Western Hip Hop when there was barely a blueprint. Along the way came Talib Kweli, Jay Electronica, Todd Rundgren, Dave Chappelle, Nottz, Ransom, The Halluci Nation, Shadia Mansour, Ana Tijoux, Mashrou' Leila, Yasmine Hamdan, Yo-Yo Ma and more. Nottz especially is full circle. NARCY grew up putting him in that rare producer class with Dilla, Dre and Premier, then eventually made “IRAQAFELLA” over a Nottz beat. Jay Electronica was even photographed rocking NARCY's IRAQAFELLA gear. That's a different kind of flowers: when artists you respected eventually represent what you built.

Then there's Yasiin Bey, formerly Mos Def, which almost feels destined considering NARCY's real name is Yassin Alsalman. NARCY appeared alongside Yasiin and Black Bear on The Halluci Nation's “R.E.D.” and directed its award-winning visual. That Black Star, Chappelle and Kweli connection continued into The Midnight Miracle, while TO BE AN (ARAB) brings Dave Chappelle, Talib Kweli, Niko Is, Mo Amer and others into his world, and “AMERICAN KARMA” connects him with Todd Rundgren and Jay Electronica. He's also directed Talib Kweli and Anderson .Paak and crossed paths creatively with legends across music, film and culture. NARCY never had to chase Hip Hop's establishment. After twenty-plus years, the establishment kept finding its way to him.
