The Odyssey isn’t about a man trying to get home it’s about becoming the man worthy of getting home.

On the surface, it’s an epic adventure filled with monsters, gods, and impossible odds. But beneath the battles lies a story that’s just as relevant today. It’s about the lifelong journey of becoming who you’re meant to be.

Odysseus doesn’t simply fight his way home. He is forced to confront pride, temptation, fear, anger, grief, and the consequences of his own choices. Every island, every storm, and every setback strips away another piece of the man he once was.

The Cyclops teaches that arrogance has consequences. The Sirens remind us that not every temptation is meant to be fought head-on—sometimes wisdom means committing to your values before you’re tested. Calypso shows that comfort can quietly steal your purpose. Scylla and Charybdis prove that life isn’t always about choosing between good and bad, but about having the courage to choose the difficult path that moves you forward.

The greatest battle wasn’t against Cyclopes or gods—it was against the weaknesses within himself. Strength alone wasn’t enough. Intelligence without humility failed. Courage without patience led to destruction. Every trial transformed him into a wiser, more disciplined leader.

When Odysseus finally returns to Ithaca after twenty years, he isn’t the same man who left. Home was always the destination, but the true journey was becoming the husband, father, king, and leader worthy of returning there.

Life is no different. We all have an “Ithaca”—our goals, dreams, and purpose. The obstacles in our path aren’t simply there to stop us; they’re there to shape us. The storms aren’t punishment. The delays aren’t failure. They’re preparing us for what’s waiting on the other side.

Sometimes the greatest victory isn’t arriving at your destination. It’s realizing the journey transformed you into someone stronger, wiser, humbler, and more capable than the person who first set sail.

🥇🥇 @azbjjleague Arizona State Championship

Decided to drop down an age bracket in the Gi and move up to Ultra Heavy in both Gi and No-Gi to get more matches.

Finished the day with a 15-2 win in the Gi, hitting a couple of lasso sweeps along the way. In No-Gi, I won a tough referee’s decision in my first match and finished the final with an arm-in guillotine.

It’s always a great experience competing alongside my @gbeastmesa72 teammates. Huge thanks to Professors @lucasnoratbjj and @joaomarcio_santosbjj for their coaching and support.

Also, a big thank you to @piu_gb72 and everyone at @gbchandler72 for always welcoming me in to train every Friday. I really appreciate it.
