At the GEC/PRT DAY Summit, powered by BossUp, Hip Hop legend Vinnie (Vin Rock) of Naughty By Nature @unclevinrock delivered a powerful message during our Business of Hip Hop fireside chat.

At some point, our generation of artists, influencers, and entrepreneurs must recognize that our greatest responsibility is no longer competing for the attention of a 13–24-year-old demographic manufactured and monetized by corporate interests.

It's about leveraging the cultural capital we've spent five decades building into political influence, economic opportunity, institutional ownership, and community revitalization.

Hip Hop must engage city halls, state legislatures, federal agencies, economic development authorities, and the institutions that determine where resources are invested and whose communities benefit.

We helped build a multibillion-dollar cultural economy. Now it's time to build the CULTURAL ECONOMIC INFRASTRUCTURE that empowers the communities responsible for creating it.

We don't need to keep proving Hip Hop's commercial value. We need to start exercising its civic and economic power.

From cultural influence to institutional influence. From entertainment to empowerment. From consumers of culture to owners of infrastructure.

When Azhanae first came to me, she was a beginner in the gym.
