Migration c/s: Calaveras — Máscaras de Memoria

This Día de los Muertos exhibition brings together my handmade calavera masks and monarch butterfly piñatas to explore remembrance, migration, transformation, and the enduring connection between the living and our ancestors.

Inspired by Mexica culture and the powerful presence of skull imagery within our ancestral history, the masks reflect on death not simply as an ending, but as part of the continuing cycle of life. The monarch butterflies represent traveling spirits, transformation, and the memories that migrate with us across borders, communities, and generations.

Through this work, I honor the people we love who are no longer physically with us but remain present in our stories, traditions, and hearts. This exhibition is dedicated to my mother, Irene Dolores Rodríguez, and my sisters, Emilia María Rodríguez and Mary Magdalene Rodríguez.

Visitors will be able to experience and purchase original masks and butterfly artworks. Each piece may be dedicated to a loved one, and participants will have the opportunity to share a name, photograph, or memory through the online Migration c/s project. Those who purchase a mask will also be invited to join a community Día de los Muertos gathering where we will come together to remember, create, share stories, and speak the names of those we continue to carry with us.

Grateful for the art space:

Today is a BE THE VERB kind of day. ✨

I’m out and about making things happen:

🪅 First stop: Silver Lake Farmer’s Market to deliver a BIG piñata to Café Alegria! And yes — you’ll be able to pick up a little piñata version of this design soon!

🛍️ Then I’m heading over to Supernova Thrift to connect with Elvis & Yvonne, talk about our upcoming workshop, and work on some social media magic.

🎳 After that, it’s time to celebrate! I’m connecting with the Rediscover crew for a little bowling action to celebrate the end of summer camps and all the work that went into it.

🦜 Then I’m linking up with Aztec Parrot and heading over to Grand Performances for an AMAZING night of Cumbia!

So yeah… today is about making, connecting, celebrating, supporting, creating, and MOVING.

Come find me at the Silver Lake Flea Market.
Come dance with us at Grand Performances.
Come be part of the movement.

BE THE VERB.

Make something.
Go somewhere.
Connect with somebody.
Have a beautiful day. ❤️
