RACE WEEK IS HERE! READ BELOW ⬇️

I remember my friend Jose asking me in 2024 if I wanted to run a 100 mile race with him. Immediately I said NO 😂
Who the heck runs 100 miles for fun, that’s insane and didn’t seem possible! (aka scared)

This was after running my first ASICS Los Angeles Marathon by the way! 😅

But a part of me was curious and said, well if Jose can do it then why can’t I?? So I singed up for it and the rest is history! I haven’t stopped running since! I’ve absolutely fallen in love with this journey and the curiosity of how far my mind, body and spirit can take me! 💡

Thank you @jose.vallejo_1 @ultrasportathletes for introducing me to what now has changed my life! I appreciate everything you do! 🙏🏽

Last long run before @chimarathon ✨
This training cycle didn’t go as planned, but I’m grateful for everyone who helped me get to this point 🫶🏻

While I was out on our 5-mile run this morning, I looked around at everyone in our interval group and found myself thinking:

Why am I a pace leader?

This is only my third time leading a pace group, and we’re just two weeks into this LA Marathon training cycle. I’m still learning what this role means to me, but I’m already realizing that it has very little to do with what my watch says.

It’s about the people.

Everyone in our group has their own story, their own goals, and their own reasons for showing up. For some, this will be their first marathon and at some point over the next five months, I’m sure many will ask themselves:

“Can I really do this?”

One of the most rewarding things I’ve experienced already is having people thank me for running at their pace and making sure they aren’t left behind.

That means a lot to me because that’s exactly what I want our group to be.

No one should feel like they have to chase everyone else or worry about being left behind because they run at a different pace. If we start those miles together, I want us to finish them together.

Sometimes that means slowing down. Sometimes it means an extra walk break. Sometimes it’s simply staying beside someone when they’re having a tough run and reminding them to keep going.

I want to see the person who questions whether they can run 26.2 miles slowly start believing that they can. I want to watch people reach distances they’ve never reached before and see their confidence grow along the way.

I’ve crossed marathon finish lines myself, but there’s something special about knowing I may get to play a small part in helping someone else cross theirs, especially for the first time.

So why am I a pace leader?

Because I get to share the journey.

This is week 2 and we’re just getting started.

Nothing cures post trip homesickness like running 14 miles back on home turf. 🏃‍♂️✨
