🐓 🤝 🇮🇹
The partnership between Le Coq Sportif and the Italian National Football Team (FIGC), which spanned from 1980 to 1984, represents one of the most stylish yet culturally idiosyncratic eras in Azzurri history.

THE BIRTH OF THE ALLIANCE (1980)
Entering the 1980s, the Italian technical sponsor landscape was shifting dramatically. After years of shifting through domestic arrangements (including local manufacturers and brief Italian ventures like Baila at World Cup 1978), FIGC looked across the Alps to the French powerhouse Le Coq Sportif.

THE EURO 80 JERSEY
The iconic home shirts worn during the tournament were far from uniform. Depending on the venue and match logistics, player kits exhibited fascinating manufacturing shifts:
Group Stage (Milan & Naples):
🇪🇸 vs Spain (Milan) & 🇨🇿 vs Czechoslovakia (Naples)
Official Le Coq Sportif tagged shirts featuring traditional flock-printed numbers;
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 vs England (Turin) & 🇧🇪 vs Belgium (Rome)
Tagless variations utilizing classic felt (pannolenci) numbers old style shirts.

WORLD CUP 1982
The defining pinnacle of this four-year partnership came during the 1982 FIFA World Cup in Spain, where Enzo Bearzot’s men lifted the trophy. For this tournament, Le Coq Sportif introduced a radical design shift: replacing the standard crewneck used at Euro 1980 with an iconic V-neck collar, masterfully trimmed with the green, white, and red of the Italian tricolor.

1983 - 1984 END OF AN ERA
Following Italy's triumphant 1982 World Cup campaign, the visual identity of the Le Coq Sportif kit underwent a final evolution before the partnership concluded in 1984. The logo was updated to an embroidered fabric patch, accompanied by three embroidered golden stars symbolizing the Azzurri's three World Cup victories.
