What an incredible night. Beneath Crimson Sails had its theatrical screening at the Rio Theatre, complete with swordfighting pre shows, costume contest, knife juggling and a sword-swallowing mermaid (now that’s a how you kick off a piratical screening), but the highlight was the reaction and energy from the crowd filling the theatre (and those reactions in the episode breaks!!!). It turns out that fast-paced, emotive vertical storytelling is just as exciting and addictive on the big screen.

Thank you to every single person who came out (all ~250 of you!) to fill the theatre with scallywag spirit. What a journey this has been, and we’re so thankful that you had as much fun watching this swashbuckling vertical as we did making it!

Thank you to @sparkys_rentals for making this magical evening possible, and massive shoutout to @braydonlangford for taking spectacular event photos! Link to all the night’s photos in the @beneathcrimsonsailsvertical bio!

What a privilege and honour to work with Indiana Wilson @indiana_wilson_films as the Director of Photography on Silver Springs Stranger. From our first call (Indy, you had just watched the YouTube video on the story behind the song! A perfect synchronicity) to notes on colour this week, working with you has been fun, easy, reciprocal, and rewarding. I am blown away by your talent and grounded precision, and dedication.

Indy leads with kindness and respect, and that was reflected in the camera and lighting team he brought on board. We were so lucky to have Mel Yerna as our Gaffer, shaping the light just right and creating the tonal atmosphere with Vera Arthur and Bailey Vose. And we were just as lucky to have a trainee on set with us in Kayla Renfro.

Our camera team, the dynamic duo from @ext.erreur, Samuel Perrin and Aurélien Rosset, absolutely nailed their job working with Indy’s Black Magic and DZO Pavo anamorphics ❤️‍🔥

The whole team brought such good energy and expertise to set. I couldn’t be more eager to work with them all again.

If you feel called to pledge your support to our project, know that you are investing in collaboration, teamwork, and, hopefully, lots more cool projects together in the future.

Thank you to Indy for your collaboration, friendship, and leadership. It is so much fun working together. Go check out Indy and the whole team’s work! Thank y’all for making production so special 🙏🏻 @indiana_wilson_films @mel.yfilms @b4ileyv0se @knoelren @ext.erreur @samy_perr @changedmyusernameonceagain 🎬

An Ode to Sparky’s ❤️‍🔥🎥✨

Making movies happen is no easy feat
Lucky for Vancouver filmmakers,
Sparky’s Gearhouse can’t be beat
“James, can you give us a discount?”
Is a plea that’s often heard
Producers and DPs bat their eyes,
landing deals so good it’s absurd
We send our lists to Charlie,
for c-stands, flags and more
While Francesco pulls out lights
And piles sandbags on the floor

Making movies happen
Is what Sparky’s does the best
So we want to thank them for
Their dedication without rest
They light us up, and all those around,
Making movies possible, while shooting injustice down
So raise a glass in cheers, crack a beer and say,
Here, here!
To Sparkys Film Rentals, the Gearhouse so generous it brings us to tears <3

We love you Sparky’s!!! Almost 20% of the money we raise through crowdfunding will go to Sparky’s for covering gear and studio costs. Link in our bio to donate to Silver Springs Stranger crowdfunding!
