What should the future of waste management look like in Montgomery County?

Join Councilmember At-Large Laurie-Anne Sayles for a community town hall to understand your options and provide meaningful feedback on the fiscal, environmental, and community impacts of the options before the Council moves forward.

Attendees will receive a presentation from Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) Director Jennifer Macedonia, covering the current state of waste management, the options up for a vote, and the County Council timeline.

Following the brief presentation, we will begin a moderated Q&A to hear from residents, stakeholders, community leaders, and elected officials in attendance.

Please RSVP by Friday October 16: bit.ly/DEPTownHall

Books are back on the list this fall.

We’re giving away 10 copies of Farming While Black, each signed by Leah Penniman, to the educators, organizers, and planners building the next season of learning.

If you shape curriculum, run an ERG at your company, or plan conferences, this one’s for you. The book is a hands on guide to reclaiming land, food, and power, and it pairs with the film for classrooms, screenings, and community programs.

Tell 10 friends about the film or book a screening, then sign up through the form in our bio. Ten winners, chosen at random. Sign up by September 4.

Then keep it going. Stream Farming While Black on New Day Films or Kanopy through your library, or request a community screening for your campus, conference, or team.

Black August.

A month to study, to honor, to remember the ones who fought and are still fighting for Black liberation.

It was born inside the prisons, holding the memory of George Jackson and the political prisoners who gave everything. But August carries many stories. Nat Turner’s rebellion. The Haitian Revolution. Watts. A month that holds the long memory of resistance.

Soul Fire Farm puts it plainly on a shirt: “All revolution is based on land.” A truth Malcolm X named decades ago. Land is the foundation of freedom. Without it, nothing else holds.

That’s the heart of Farming While Black. Black farmers reclaiming the land, and reclaiming their power.

Watch it this month:
