Yesterday in Game 1 of the Saturday Doubleheader, the Campesinos de Salem-Keizer faced the first place Salem Senators. The game was an incredible piece of offensive work on behalf of the Senators by coming out with 10 runs after 3 innings. After the first section of the game the pace did slow down a tad, as they continued to only tack on 2 more runs. However this lead was too much for the Campesinos to handle and with a rough day for their pitching staff, they could only put up 5 total runs, handing them the loss. This win confirmed the Senators taking the series from the Camps, 2-1. The Senators will play the Volcanoes next week, and the Campesinos will face the Mavericks.

This game was history. Roy Verdejo struck his 11th, and record breaking home run in the early innings, and the Senators couldn’t slow down after it. They put up seven runs total across 9 frames, while holding the Campesinos to 4. Strong performances out of the Senators bullpen following Andres Alonso who had the start. Despite the loss, the Campesinos held the same number of hits as the Senators with 11. The key differential here was the number of errors committed. The Camps had 7 of them, compared to the 1 that the Senators committed. Definitely a defensive game to be forgotten for the Camps, and who knows what this game could have looked like if the defense was cleaned up. A good game from both sides, but the Campesinos looking forward to the next one in the series scheduled for Friday evening.
