9/13 Wicked Fast ~Half Marathon in Jim Thorpe.

Conditions: ☔️ Torrential downpours 2-5:30AM. Torrential downpour 7:10AM-8:30?AM. Flooded. Muddy. Puddle-y. Wet. Ankle deep puddles. 2 spots on path shin deep in water. Great temperature. Minimal humidity for rainy.

Course: D&L trail asphalt and mostly crushed stone. Scenic. Path was mostly flooded and ran on a sliver of.. whatever was available. 5k turnaround was long/wrong by about 0.45mi. Race actual distance 13.92 miles. 😬

Stats: HM 13.1 miles 1:45:27 • course 13.92 miles in 1:52:14. 19TH/157Th overall. 9th/96th for Females. 3rd for my age group!

You can train and retrain - have a game plan— and the weather will always do its own thing. I stayed around 8min pace throughout the varying race conditions. I was pretty much on autopilot in the elements. My cross country loving self enjoyed the muddy flooded challenge. It was mostly fun, messy & a little scary at times to see the river so flooded so close, with not many people around. So. much. water. Grateful for my nose to cause a steady stream of water since the water stations were far and few between 😂. Im so grateful for my running bestie & to continue to make running memories with @katerade42 (who absolutely crushed her half marathon). Im grateful for my cheer squad Bryan Irina & Luka 💙 Mile 11 on my watch (but mile 10 on the course) tested my brain power for sure. Switching from “I have 1.9 miles left” to “wait there’s a 5k left?” tested my grit and I tried to stay as steady as I could. Add to that the heavy sneakers. I knew since the 5k turn around the course was off/long, but it didn’t impact my mind until that mile 11 (or 10). Anyway, I had some jelly beans and held on for the end of the ride.

Hard to believe it’s 2026 & My last half marathon (that I paid money to run) was in 2019 (Time of 1:37). My goal was to beat 1:37 and I think in better conditions it would have happened! My PB is 1:30 and so breaking 1:30 is the end goal in time. Glad I have a stat in the books for the 2020s, even if the course was long and it was not ideal. I am eager for the next one!

Comment “Don’t Entertain Any Negativity” below. Let’s flood this post with good karma, good energy, and positive vibes as we finish 2026 stronger than we started it. 🖤

7577. “It doesn’t matter what I find next if I don’t find myself in the process.”
-
The last 2 weeks have been one of the most reflective times of Bryan Phanthavong’s life. Born in West Philly and raised in King of Prussia, he studied Business at @lebanonvalleycollege, but always felt a deeper purpose beyond work.
-
As he built his career as a project manager and product owner (always interested in tech, but not a coder), he dabbled in creativity here and there. He created Vine videos, he started a blog in 2015 talking about his Laotian heritage, he started his own golf league back in 2019.
-
However, he never really went beneath the surface of his feelings - until last quarter when he learned he’d need to find a new role in his company. Starting Q2, Bryan was given 90 days to figure out what’s next, so using AI (the same source of the elimination of his role) he decided to gain true clarity.
-
He set up a 90-day program of meaningful prompts, ranging from his why to the masks he’s worn to his childhood stories, and has since written, recorded and posted videos of his answers.
-
Building on attempts to free himself in the past (like skydiving in Texas), he’s now become inspired to pursue meaningful goals like catching 100 fish (because he was known as the jinx when he fished as kid). But more importantly, he’s stepped into the fulfillment of teaching others how to fish (metaphorically).
-
Therefore, beyond passing these lessons down to his 2 kids, Bryan (no matter what role he holds next) wants to help others access the depths of themselves in order to grow towards their true potential! Awesome hanging with you, @b_realreal!
