On Olympic Day, we recognise the Australian Taekwondo athletes who represented our nation at the Olympic Games.

It is an opportunity that only the most dedicated, hard working, and talented athletes are gifted the opportunity.

Their achievement reflects years of discipline, resilience, and commitment to reaching the highest level of sport.

Today is a celebration of that journey and a reminder to the next generation that every step in Taekwondo can lead to something greater.

From local clubs and daily training sessions to the world’s biggest stage, the pathway is built through hard work, belief, and the pursuit of excellence.

To every young athlete coming through: keep striving, keep learning, and keep chasing what is possible.
Your journey starts now.

Sometimes, people ask what cameras we use, and there are just two brands we rely on: Panasonic Lumix and Leica. Leica is our go-to for the many documentary images we post. For the past eight years, we have documented the Australian National and Olympic teams for Boxing, and later Taekwondo, Judo and Wrestling.

We have shot at state and national title events, attended Olympic and Comm Games training camps at the Australian Institute of Sport, watched national champions join the professional ranks, and welcomed home Olympians and youth athletes at the airport alike. We have documented the rise of professional boxers on their way to world titles and followed Australian champions on their way to Tokyo and Paris to claim Olympic medal glory.

Leica is celebrating 100 years since their first camera this year, so it seems appropriate to share just a few favourites from the many, many images we have gathered in our combat sports journey so far. All images here shot with the Leica M9.

Today on Olympic Day, we celebrate the dedication, sacrifice, and unwavering determination it takes to reach the pinnacle of sport.

Hymer, Lewis, and Sejranovic became household names in the Taekwondo community when they stepped onto the mats at the Paris 2024 Olympics — a moment that inspired pride across the nation.

Few have the honour of representing Australia on the Olympic stage, and this team’s journey will continue to inspire generations of Australian Taekwondo athletes to dream big and aim high.
