There are a million ways to Burn. Somehow, this year we got to experience almost all of them ✨

Comfort & Joy has been a hearth of the Queerborhood and San Francisco queer community for 25 years.

Together, 60 illustrious queers from around the globe built more than a camp. We built a home.

I’m immensely proud of what Comfort & Joy accomplished. Not because everything went to plan - it certainly did not - but because when things broke, people stepped up. When someone needed help, somebody appeared. When the work was done, the camp came alive.

Months of planning, fundraising, packing, hauling, building, and losing our minds became real: a place where people could walk through our neon flags and belong.

And then, somehow, we actually got to leave it… Tomorrow 😉

In so many ways, this was a bucket list Burn - DJing the Afterglow Tent after the Naked Pub Crawl, seeing Black Rock City from the right seat of a Piper Comanche, and driving all over deep playa in a pirate ship art car.

Through it all, we came home to this beautiful queer family we’d built in the dust (and mud).

For me, being entrusted with that responsibility as Mayor has been one of the greatest honors of my life.

Going with @ry4ny for his first Burn made it even more special. Ryan dove into the deep end: taking on a leadership role, redesigning and managing our infrastructure, solving problems nobody knew we’d have, and becoming a critical advisor through the Burn’s biggest challenges. And once the dust settled, we remembered why anyone goes through all this trouble in the first place.

Thank you to every camper, leader, builder, artist, DJ, friend, neighbor, and beautiful stranger who made Comfort & Joy and Black Rock City what it was this year.

Until next time, see you in the dust! 💖🔥🌈

Burning Man # 5

Fourth burn and still figuring it out.

Being on your own at @burningman is hard as f*ck. Missed my close friends ofc, but got closer to others. Admittedly, I wasn’t really on my own. Thank you once again @baaahsstation, you are full of talented, brilliant, and hard-working people I admire and feel privileged and lucky to surround myself with. Nothing but love for all of you.

Still not enough time to see all of the art though. Oh, and whiteouts are no joke, Tycho was mid 🤭, Lee Burridge forever, and @camp.gs’ takeover of @discosmos_ Saturday morning was the best party of my week (of the burn?).

Just got back and already want more. The Man burns in 362 days 🐑🔥👤❤️‍🔥
