Tigers generally avoid sloth bears because the bears are fiercely aggressive and willing to fight to the death to defend themselves. Because a tiger relies on its health and agility to hunt, sustaining serious injuries from a bear’s long, blunt claws and teeth is an unacceptable risk for the predator.
Tigers and sloth bears frequently cross paths in reserves like Ranthambore .Tigers will occasionally prey on sloth bear cubs, but adults present significant challenges:

No Flight Instinct: Unlike most of a tiger’s prey, which relies on running away, sloth bears possess a hair-trigger temper and will aggressively charge or stand and fight to avoid being eaten.
Extreme Aggression: Research shows that when startled or threatened at close range, sloth bears frequently use an aggressive-defensive strategy, charging and trying to claw at the tiger’s face. This ferocity often startles the big cat into retreating.
Physical Adaptations: A sloth bear is notoriously tough to kill. Its thick shaggy coat and loose, coarse skin make it difficult for a tiger to secure a lethal grip on the throat or neck. Furthermore, their long, spade-like claws—which are primarily used for digging up termite mounds—are devastating in close-quarters combat

So humbled to be in the quiet presence of these magnificent cats ,another wonderful moment on a trip packed with wonderful moments that l will never forget . Thanks to our superb support team in lndia @bablutiger1754 and @ashif25goriyan for making these encounters happen . I will be running 4 trips next spring if anyone is interested in joining these small photographic groups message me . I am offering very affordable packages that give the best opportunities to capture memorable images .

Fourth day of the safaris searching for tigers. With no sightings in the morning we were hopeful as we set out in the afternoon given that the zone we were entering had had a sighting that morning. This zone included a tigress with four 7 month old cubs (fourth cubs is very unusual) and we were hoping to see them at a water hole where they had been seen earlier. As we approached the water hole after a 40 minute drive deep into the zone we saw that the tigress was on the move with three of her cubs moving through the thick vegetation and disappearing from view regularly as they were hid by the foliage. Photography proved very difficult though we were offered a couple of quick views to get a few images before all four tigers disappeared up the hill to the cave they were residing in.
Travelling around the zone we then came across a young male tiger sleeping in the shade of a tree at the side of the lake. After watching him for sometime he awakened before going in to hunt mode in an attempt to catch some of the larger water birds that were nearby. Watching him prowl and stalk his prey was a magical sight and something that I had hoped to see but did not think I would.
As the sun began to set and the light faded we started to head out of the reserve only to come across a sixth tiger, the biggest tigresses in the reserve laid at the side of the lake. With the light fading fast we left her to sleep and headed out onto the approach road.
Incredibly we then came across the young male tiger we had seen on previous days moving through the long grass.
7 different tigers in a 4 hour period is certainly unusual but to see cubs and a tiger hunting is a real magical experience, an experience to dream of.
