angewandte festival '26

Graphic, Text: Barbara Knapp, Verena Müllner, João Luís Soares, Dominik Leitner

Proposal for the Angewandte Festival 2026 drawing on the principles of the Situationist International, a European artist group from the 1950s. They developed playful tactics to break up everyday routines in the city and stimulate new ways of experiencing space and social interactions. By blurring the line between play and life, our design takes a similar route and treats the city as a playground.

We prioritized producing the unexpected over the classical. Our approach is not colorful like previous years and intentionally irritating to arouse curiosity. The city acts as a symbol of diversity where different tonalities and voices are translated through the use of altering typefaces and typography.

A bit over a month ago I curated my first exhibition titled “Every Sunday We Go To Church” in a cave in Kufstein, Tyrol.

𝔈𝔳𝔢𝔯𝔶 𝔖𝔲𝔫𝔡𝔞𝔶 𝔚𝔢 𝔊𝔬 𝔗𝔬 ℭ𝔥𝔲𝔯𝔠𝔥 is a site specific exhibition exploring social norms and how we behave when we know we are being perceived. “Scheinheilig” is a German word describing acting in sanctimonious or morally superior way; however acting out of false intentions. Acting seemingly holy. The aim of the exhibition was to question what happens when we remove the mask and stop performing. Artists from all over the world were invited to translate their interpretation into visual media and sonic soundscapes.

Thank you to everyone who participated, came to support, asked questions and gave answers. I’m feeling incredibly lucky and grateful to be surrounded by weird creative people who felt crazy enough to bring this vision to life with me. I couldn’t have done it without you 🤍

Excited to announce “Every Sunday We Go To Church”, a group exhibition taking place in a cave in the Austrian Alps.

Opening: 30.05.2026

“Scheinheilig” is a German word describing behavior that is sanctimonious or morally superior—appearing outwardly holy. With “Every Sunday We Go To Church”, we invite international artists from Australia, the UK, Korea, Germany, and Austria to question what happens when we remove the mask and stop performing.

The exhibition takes place inside a cave in the Austrian Alps, directly connected to the idea of bringing light to what is usually kept in the dark. The site creates a space for the artists to freely explore ideas of hypocrisy, shadow work, and performativity.

„Senke deinen Blick und verweile“ explores the relation between humans and nature through acts of selection - archiving, collecting and associating as we walk through the „Park an der Ilm“ in Weimar.

The park was designed as an artificial landscape whose purpose was to intentionally provoke romantic aesthetical experiences. Embracing on this cultural history we positioned ourselves as attentive wanderers reinterpreting rather than reproducing its original purpose.

Inspired by Mnemosyne Atlas by Aby Warburg, the work treats the archive as a perceptual tool, assembling fragments into shifting constellations rather than fixed narratives. Developed through daily walks in Weimar, the work traces recurring visual patterns and subtle connections that emerge through attentive observation. What is fleeting becomes form; what is overlooked becomes visible.

The project proposes a simple practice: to lean your gaze and relate differently.
