You got to see it to be it. Suga Sang is a great example of why representation matters. Mateo is 7 and AC is 16. We’ve seen them grow up over the years and they got to be a part of our World Down Syndrome Market for the first time this year. If you’ve been lucky enough to have a conversation, work with, or hang out with anyone that has been diagnosed with down syndrome, you quickly learn that they are not looking for your pity. They wake up and want to be a part of something. They not only want to be in community, they want to contribute to society. JUST LIKE ANYONE ELSE. Sang can be happy and then sad. He can be motivated and then not want to do anything at all. He can be a social butterfly and then want to be left alone. JUST LIKE ANY ONE ELSE. As restaurant owners, we CAN adjust processes in a working kitchen in order for EVERYONE to succeed. As customers, we CAN exercise patience when ordering from someone with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Celebrating World Down Syndrome Day means we recognize the beauty and STRENGTH in our differences at work or at play. Each year we host WDSD Market to amplify awareness and support our commUnity. But it is what we do every single day at home or at work that can make for an inclusive work place, city, state, country and WORLD. Thank you to our commUnity of vendor friends and customers for always showing up. All the love, in every way. 🙏🏽🦋💛 - @chefreyeduong
