“It’s important now more than ever to do things by hand and show how they’re made. For me it’s an act of resistance to AI.”– @claudiabrugnaletti   Claudia – concept artist, painter, sculptor and puppetmaker – created our weird puppet friends for the Weird More film. To make each creature feel alive, Claudia studies the real world: how an animals moves, how they act, and how they look. Then she and the rest of the @cotton_claud_ltd team translate that into paint, texture, shape and movement. All by hand.   Handcrafting is integral to Claudia’s puppetry and her wider creative philosophy, especially in the world of AI. It is a way of using your brain, learning skills, getting your hands involved and making something that is truly there in the world.   For Claudia, weird isn’t about being eccentric. When it came to bringing our Weird More film to life, we needed a collaborator who just gets it. Someone committed to their craft. Someone a little weird.   Enter the incredible @claudiabrugnaletti: concept artist, painter, sculptor and puppetmaker. You might recognise her work from Wes Anderson’s ‘Isle of Dogs’.   We commissioned Claudia and the rest of her team at @cotton_claud_ltd – Sonia, Pav and Sofia – to create the forest creatures @mackhollins meets along the way – bringing a strange cast of characters from sketchbook to screen. Think fluffy groundhog, fashionable mushroom ladies, a relaxed snail, a funny fish and one eagle with a bit of an attitude. They’re odd, expressive and of course weird. Exactly as they should be.   Her strange creations, oozing with character, enchanted us.
