Another Bowes Cup in the bag. 21 man gate start and 2 dogs. The trophies headed back to Tassy. Congrats to @beaumtattoo for taking the win. Thank you for all that came along to celebrate Michael’s life and represent. A highlight of my year, and I’m fortunate for every friendship BMX has given me along the journey.

Choose the mattress. In 2008 I flew to Newcastle NSW to be with a guy who broke up with me 2 weeks later. Fly home...? Nup. I got a job in a bar (The Del), partied, did a remedial massage course, moved in with 4 epic chicks who helped me start a journey of knowing who I am and lived on the floor of their loungeroom, went on amazing surfing camping adventures, danced in the rain, made some incredible friendships, got taken care of when I was heart broken, got a job as a surf reporter which meant that I would drive to every beach at sunrise to photograph the surf and built up a nice catalogue of surf lifestyle imagery. I ended up finding my passion again for photography and entered one of the photos I took into the Newcastle Emerging Artist Awards In 2009. (Threw a photo in a wrongly sized frame and went in on last day of entries because my other friend was entering!)I won the overall award and photography award (winning shot in stories)... I won $4000 which paid for a camera upgrade, the camera housing (that took this photo) and my first ever solo photography exhibition which raised money for Sea Shepherd's Cove watch program. I left Newcastle exactly 1 year to the day that I arrived knowing in my heart that there is no such thing as a mistake or a bad decision or life being unfair. The girl crying on the park bench in the rain calling her bestie a year earlier would be proud. My friend on the phone asked me, Rae we can buy you a flight home or a mattress for you to stay there. (I had been sleeping on the floor since we broke up.) Deciding then and there I would stay and make something of this situation I chose the mattress. Xx 👊 #whenlifegivesyoulemons
