Kodak Charmera Photowalk 2.0 Features

We challenged our participants to explore Bukit Bintang with their Kodak Charmeras and capture the city through a distinctly Y2K-inspired lens.

These selected shots are the results, a mix of colour, street scenes, textures, and unexpected moments, showing the different ways our participants experienced the city through these tiny cameras.

Huge thanks to everyone who joined Kodak Charmera Photowalk 2.0: Millennium Edition, got creative, and shared their perspective with us!

More experiences, curated by Zontiga.

KODAK CHARMERA PHOTOWALK 2.0: MILLENNIUM EDITION

BRB. We’re going back to 2000.

It’s been a while since our last Charmera photowalk in February, and we‘re heading back into the city, this time with a distinctly Y2K twist.

Join us for a morning photowalk through Bukit Bintang with the Kodak Charmera Millennium Edition, a tiny keychain camera inspired by the early digital era.

We’ll wander through the city chasing reflections, colours, retro signage, and moments that feel straight out of the Y2K era. Whether you’re carrying the Millennium Edition or another Kodak Charmera, you’re welcome to join.

Come dressed in your favourite Y2K-inspired fit if you’d like. We’ll end the morning over coffee, sharing photos, stories, and moments from the walk.

GMBB hosted its first Open Studio programme, and I had the privilege of being its first resident artist.

Working with food waste is not new to me. Over the years, I have initiated research, workshops, and community projects in both Kuala Lumpur and the UK, exploring the potential of discarded materials as colour.

This time, is a different approach.

It was not only about my work. It became about the place, the people, and the unexpected opportunities that emerged through being present and open.

Over the past months, discarded onion skins, coffee grounds, surplus vegetables, and forgotten plants entered the studio and became dyes, pigments, printing pastes, and conversations. Yet the most valuable material was the exchange that happened around them.

Visitors dropped by with questions, ideas, and offers to contribute. One shared leftover char kuey teow(😅). Another introduced new perspectives on waste and circular practices from Singapore. I met people who already save avocado skins(because they have loads) and make wonders with it. I also discovered about
untapped possibilities of biomass algae too!

The Open Studio became a space where artists, café owners, designers, makers, and curious visitors gathered around the same table to experiment, share knowledge, and imagine new possibilities for waste materials.

An Open Studio is not only about benefiting the artist. It is about creating value through connection. Looking back, I can confidently say that taking part in this experience was worth the risk.

As my research into food waste colour continues, these new relationships and conversations have expanded my thinking and strengthened my belief that this work can grow beyond the studio into larger collaborations, industries, and communities.

Thank you @gmbb.kl , fellow tenants, workshop participants, visitors, and everyone who contributed materials, stories, questions, and encouragement along the way.
Sometimes the most meaningful outcomes are the ones you never planned for.

What started off as a simple design, in the hands of various artists with diverse culture, each piece develops into a story on its own.

Individuals shaped by culture then shapes a civilization that’s both unique and beautiful.
