Things that make me ridiculously happy as a yoga teacher. 😂💗

Spoiler alert: NONE of them involve putting your foot behind your head.

After 25+ years of practicing yoga and teaching thousands of students, you know what really gets me excited?

When someone stops apologizing for their body.

When a student grabs a block instead of forcing themselves into a pose.

When someone questions what I’ve taught instead of blindly accepting it. FUCK YES. Critical thinking!

When someone realizes that resting isn’t failing.

And my personal favourite…

When a student tells me they finally set a boundary, spoke their truth, or stopped abandoning themselves to make someone else comfortable.

THAT’S THE SHIT.

Because I don’t teach yoga so people can become better at poses.

I teach yoga so people can become more aware of themselves, make conscious choices, and live more authentically.

The poses? They’re just one of the tools.

The real yoga happens when you leave the mat.

And nothing makes me happier than watching my students figure that out for themselves.

The poses are practice. Life is the test. 💗

👇 Yoga teachers, what makes YOU ridiculously happy when you’re teaching?

..

yoga teacher, yoga philosophy, yoga teacher training, authentic yoga, inclusive yoga, self awareness, embodied leadership, nervous system regulation, yoga anatomy, personal growth

Awwwww, younger Jeanine💛
September 2013
22 years old
Her first Yoga Teacher Training.
Her first big international solo trip.

I had no idea what would come from making the very scary, very big decision to quit my job and become a yoga teacher. Most people thought It was a crazy + irresponsible decision, but I did it anyway.

All I knew at this time was that yoga had saved my life. It was one of the only places I felt safe in my body and one of the only ways I knew how to feel regulated. I wanted more of it. And I wanted to create spaces where other people could feel that way, too.

I remember my OCD being so bad before boarding the flight from NYC to Fiji for this month-long training. I almost didn’t go, but I’m so glad I did. I did it scared.

My whole world opened up during that first YTT.
A new perspective on the limitless possibilities of how you could spend your one life.
New depths of conversation and connection.
New experiences with different cultures and ways of moving through the world.
New expressions of what a career, a community, and a life could look like.
I remember thinking, Wait, these teachers travel and teach yoga as a CAREER?!

Seeds planted. Dreams stirred. Hope ignited.

I could never have imagined where teaching yoga would take me over the next 13 years. I would never have believed that I’d own my own yoga school and also travel the world sharing this art.

Younger Jeanine is still here. She’s in every training I lead, in every student who takes a similar leap into the unknown even though it’s terrifying, and in every message we receive about how life-giving and life-saving yoga can be.

Something bigger, brighter, and more beautiful than my 22-year old self could have ever dreamed grew from that one scary decision. From not listening to other’s opinions. From not letting the fear stop me.

We don’t have to have it all figured out. We just take the next right step, follow the next yes, lean into the inspiration, and see what unfolds. We do it scared and we listen to our own voice first and foremost. ✨
