🪦 We’re Back!! 🎃🕸️ The burn out felt like death, but I’m still standing!! ✨

This month on Bass N Create we will be sharing House, UKG and DNB sets by this music lover who has exposed some new people to bass music culture. The algorithm was set correctly when I was introduced to 365 tunes in 365 day with @badbehli

Just this summer he has played sets at Boomtown , Worship in London and recently a sold out show called 365 all night. Where he spun for 5hrs which is just MAD!

Go follow him and be exposed to bass music culture via a music lovers perspective. Big up for sharing forgotten gems and background on some timeless tunes that have shaped this scene.

Get your paints and crafts ready to lock in to the ride. We are going to close the year out with many bangs. 🎨 🔊 🪩

a lovely evening with skream & benga

call me an easily impressed small town lad, but london’s labyrinthian nature will never not wow me. something to blow my mind in every nook and cranny. found myself walking through central recently and suddenly looking into the basement editing room of a film production house. fairs. hope they didn’t see me peeking. on this particular tuesday, i found myself walking through an inconspicuous black door somewhere in london, and stepping into spotify’s listening lounge for an evening with skream & benga.

first of all, a moment for the space. having been privileged enough to hear the unreal sound system the savants at friendly pressure have built once before, i was excited to experience what it could do in a different context. last time was stevie wonder, d’angelo, donny hathaway. this time was dubstep. bass what could knock your hairline back. in my case, it probably did. i haven’t checked yet. unreal.

hosted by fellow dubstep artist bad behli, the evening saw skream & benga take us on a whistle-stop tour through their influences, friends, and catalogue highlights. as someone relatively new to dubstep, to be guided through its history by two of its greats was wonderful. from big apple records, to producing on playstation, to shutting down fabric and glastonbury, these genre pioneers have done the job lot. put me on to some cracking music as well. stepped outside my box and reaped the rewards. buzzing.

as the pair took us from past to present, the future looms large in the shadow of drumsheds. 15,000 bodies. next saturday. spotify presents dia/log with skream & benga. getting giddy thinking about it. state of that lineup. plastician. d double e. spyro. sbtrkt. don’t be daft. get yourself down. only got yourself to blame when you see the clips and start feeling foolish. see you’s there.

class.

It’s not every day you get the chance to hear Skream and Benga talk about the music that helped shape their careers, then hear the sounds that accompanied their journeys played back in the same room.

Im super grateful to have been invited along to the Spotify HQ for an evening with them, ahead of their absolutely stacked Spotify: DIA/LOG show at Drumsheds on October 17th.

The conversation covered the early South London sounds, their first productions, the importance of Big Apple Records, tracks they wish they’d made, some of their biggest tracks and the stories from the early days of Magnetic Man.

Here are a few moments I captured from the night including stories, tracks and memories from two people who were there at the beginning of it all & helped shape Dubstep future.

Huge shout to @spotifyuk for hosting such an incredible evening, @skreamandbenga for the extension of Dubstep education & @badbehli for hosting the night.

See you at @drumsheds !
