Lately, I’ve been making more of an effort to shop local and support small businesses whenever I can. 🤍

This was my second visit to the Ladner Village Market, home to 160+ vendors making it one of the largest open air farmers markets in Western Canada.

For me, supporting local isn’t just about where I spend my money, I also want to use this space to share some of the small businesses I discover along the way. So give them a follow, check them out online, or keep an eye out for them at your local markets & shops!

Swipe to see 4 vendors I loved this time around →

Bestii — @drinkbestii 🫚
My second time stocking up on their ginger shots! I get the Orange Turmeric (the milder one 🌶️) and use it in everything from tea and bone broth to soups, or just take it as a shot. They also make their own ginger tea!

Sonia’s Flowers — @soniasflowers 🌻
They had me at the sunflowers. Their market stand is right across from their brick-and-mortar shop in Ladner Village, and they were constantly replenishing their gorgeous bouquets as they sold. Such a hardworking team!

Royal Herbs — @royalherbs 🌿
I try to use natural cleaning products at home whenever I can, so I picked up their kitchen & bathroom cleaning spray and it smells SO good! They also carry soaps, essential oils and lots of other naturally made products.

Bad Dog Bread — @baddogbreadnv 🥖
One of the longest lineups at the market. Everything was made fresh that morning using organic BC grains, milled on-site and naturally leavened into handcrafted artisan bread. We definitely didn’t leave empty-handed… pastries were sampled and a baguette came home with us!

This is not your average “farmers market”.
I strolled the @ladnervillagemarket for the first time all season. (I can’t believe how much the market has grown!)

From all the food and drink vendors like @holbeancoffee, @drinkpopoff, @woodsspiritco, @baddogbreadnv, @thaiprincesssauce….

And the amazing gift/cool product vendors like @reikodesigns and @jarsbyjodi, @sherry_mcmillan_writes @outofthewoodswoodcraft…

And the foods truck @discocheetahyvr (I used to do their social media content!) and @mistergs.ca (best Mac & cheese!).

I loved seeing the familiar market vendors and smiling faces!

Looks like their last market of the season is Sept 20th! Dont miss it!

Life Lessons from Strangers — Part 2 💚

We’re back with more words of wisdom from the farmers market! 🧺✨

Sometimes, a conversation with a stranger can leave you with something to think about long after you’ve left the market. We asked our market community to share a life lesson they’ve learned and once again, they had some beautiful words to share.

Take a moment to listen, reflect, and maybe take a little piece of their wisdom with you today. 💚

What’s a life lesson you’ve learned along the way? Tell us in the comments! 👇

Somewhere along the way, we stopped eating food and started eating food products. Wheat is a perfect example.

Most people have never seen real wheat, never touched a kernel, and have no idea what’s been done to it before it reaches their plate.

Let’s talk about it.
The kernel of wheat is comprised 3 natural parts:

1. ENDOSPERM: protein + carbohydrates

2. BRAN: fibre + B vitamins + minerals

3. GERM: unsaturated fat + B vitamins + antioxidants + phytonutrients

White flour: endosperm only
(loose over 25 essential nutrients)

Whole wheat flour: Endosperm and bran
still missing the germ, which contains fats and nutrients

Whole grain flour: ding ding ding ALL 3 PARTS

No bran = no fiber = bloating, cravings, constipation, and gut imbalance

This surprised me too! This whole time I have been eating white bread and pasta I thought I was getting more out of it other than just the endosperm containing protein and carbs.

We are living in a world where it’s common to see synthetic vitamins like thiamine and ascorbic acid added back in artificially… this is what ‘enriched flour’ is.

But you can can’t strip the nutrients out of food and then add them back with lab made powders.

The finer the flour, the faster your body digests it. That creates quick glucose spikes—followed by energy crashes, irritability, and more cravings. Processed wheat trains your body to be addicted to carbs instead of fueled by them.

For thousands of years, wheat nourished civilizations. Bread was crafted slowly and fermented naturally.

Today, it’s a convenience product. Instead of being stone-ground or traditionally prepared, most modern wheat products are ultra-processed, packed with preservatives, dough conditioners, emulsifiers, and seed oils.

Bread is no longer made to nourish us; it’s made to satisfy shelf life, speed, and profit.

Start small and add 50% of organic whole grain back into your diet. Try whole grain pasta, whole grain cous cous or whole grain sourdough bread.

Wheat was never the problem—processing was.

So remember: You don’t need to quit wheat, you need to re-meet it in its original form.

Who will be at the market this Saturday? 🍑

Peaches and Apricots are now in season! Come get your fill at our market on Saturday, along with blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, strawberries, and more!

Our farm vendors have some delicious potatoes and cucumbers for sale, and with bean and tomato season right around the corner we'll soon have a ton more veggies to take home!

We also have a pizza caterer onsite this weekend: Es Pizza Co! Grab some lunch at the market and a yummy iced tea from Instea or Tropi-Kool. ☀️🍕
