Earlier this week @chefberrygoodevents graciously invited me as his plus 1 to check out Chicagos newest hotspot for its friends and family dinner. With banger after banger at this point it’s fairly obvious @zubairmohajir is clearly the George Michael of the culinary world. His latest hit @muhajirchicago has barely opened its doors in Lincoln Park and is already being lauded as the most exciting opening this year ( and perhaps his most personal)

Celebrating the ancient spice routes that bridged continents Muhajir deliciously tells a story of immigration, culture and ultimately.. belonging.

From the bright and addictive Salabat Salad to the hygge-ish nourishment of the Wagyu Beef Cheek Nihari, every dish on the menu, however different, hammers the same sentiment home; we are all so different and that’s what makes us great together.

Chicago, meet the French bakery everyone is about to be talking about. 🥐🇫🇷

Guillotine Bakery in West Town isn’t serving the pastel, tourist-friendly version of France. They’re bringing the grit, obsession, and craftsmanship behind real French baking to Chicago.

Using imported French flour and grass-fed Normandy butter, every pastry is built on technique that takes years to master. The result? Croissants with impossibly flaky layers, kouign-amanns with perfect caramelization, and pastries that remind you why handmade food still matters.

What I ordered: 🥐 Classic Croissant 🧁 Praline Cruffin 🌰 Almond Croissant

The praline cruffin absolutely stole the show. Shatteringly crisp layers giving way to a buttery center and a velvety roasted praline filling that wasn’t overly sweet. The almond croissant delivered rich almond frangipane and toasted almonds in every bite. And the classic croissant? A masterclass in what French pastry should taste like.

One of my favorite parts: the open kitchen. You can watch the bakers laminate dough and pull pastries from the oven in real time. No shortcuts. No hiding the process. Just pure craftsmanship on display.

If you’re looking for some of the best treats in Chicago, this belongs on your list.

There is pride in serving a home cooked meal, especially when there is enough to share and others to share it with. About last night...

So nice meeting new friends and being able to feed them! It was an honor really.

Breaking down the menu:
1. Big mac fried rice - this is inspired by @agnesandsherman with their dish. I've made a chicago hot dog fried rice already so this is not out of my ball park either. Comforting and nostalgic flavors.
2. Ginger scallion chix - classic poached free range chicken. Shredded and dressed.
3. Garlic pea tips - one of my favorite Chinese veggies. Get this at any canto restaurant and you won't be disappointed.
4. Garlic steamed shrimp - this is something Mama Chin used to make all the time. It's funny cause my fave part is the vermicelli under the shrimp that soaks up all the sauce and not the shrimp itself 😂
5. Gochujang aioli patatas bravas - not canto but patatas bravas is a top tier tapa. The gochujang makes the aioli spicier than usual Spanish ones and gives it a nuttier flavor. This got cleared so fast.

Hope to cook like this more often 🙏

Macerelli’s was spectacular. Nostalgic Italian American flavors that transported the Monday Night Foodball crew straight back to Dave Andrews’ childhood kitchen. Beans and Greens, Baked Rigatoni, and The Meatball—absolute perfection. Every dish felt like coming home. Dave, you did your Bugga proud.

Ten years of Kimski. What a celebration. A room full of people eating well. Raising glasses of Marz beer and soju. Simply being in community.

What Maria, Ed, Mike, and Won have built over the past decade is truly remarkable. Blending Korean and Polish food and culture in a way that brings strangers, friends, and family to the same tables. Always making people feel at home.

How lucky are we to have shared in it. Ten years down. It still feels like the beginning. 위하여!

Today I became one of those people who got in the line! After months of prep, tasting, testing, and re-testing, @guillotinebakery did a popup @mindysbakery and the people showed up! They had a variety of their authentic French pastries and baguettes and will open hopefully soon in West Town in Chicago Ave. Thank you @baez.bitez for getting us a spot. Great seeing @mindysegal and her main man Bill. Super nice meeting @vincentdidry.fr and also @holeydoughandco Jake.

Couldn’t agree more. What a thrilling exploration of Thai street food at Zaab E Lee. Mouthwatering dishes, fantastic wines and 1 soju (Thank you Francis 😉),
but it’s the company that made it exceptional.
