This weekend, our right-sized house was overflowing. And I wouldn’t have changed a thing. 🤍

When your grown kids live in different cities, you get used to the goodbyes. The airport runs. The calendars. The texts that say, When are you coming next?

But I’m not sure it ever gets easy.

So when two of our three were here this weekend, I soaked up every bit of the beautiful chaos.

Noah flew in from Atlanta with two buddies for a Door County weekend and a trip to Lambeau. The Packers didn’t exactly cooperate with our plans 😬💚💛…but the memories certainly did.

Our daughter and future son-in-law were here too, with wedding plans in full swing. Conversations around the table. Details being decided. Stories being told. Toasts being made.

And Tim doing what Tim does best—laughing and crying through all of it. 😂🤍

There were more people. More food. More glasses on the counter. More shoes by the door. More noise than usual.

And I loved every single bit of it.

Because maybe that’s something I’ve learned about creating a right-sized life:

It’s not about making your life smaller.
It’s about making room for more of what matters.

Our kids may be scattered across the country now. Our house may not be the big family home where we raised them.

But when they come through the door, somehow it expands.

For a few days, it was overflowing with friends and wedding talk and football and laughter and probably a few tears.

And then everyone leaves again.

The house gets quiet.

And you’re left with that funny ache that comes from being incredibly grateful for the life your kids are building…while still wishing they lived just a little bit closer.

This weekend fit.

Every loud, messy, emotional, wonderful minute of it. 🤍

Long-distance parents of grown kids—you know this feeling, don’t you? The fullness when they’re home…and that quiet when they leave. ✈️❤️
