Meet Kennesaw State University Associate Professor of Instructional Technology from the Bagwell College of Education, Dabae Lee.

Lee’s research focuses on helping future teachers build “responsive teaching” skills, such as better understanding students’ thinking and using questions to guide their learning, through AI-powered virtual students with different personalities, math skills, and misconceptions. This allows student-teachers to practice responding to a variety of classroom interactions.

“What has been done is that either the instructor, a trained adult or peer student-teachers will play the role of children,” Lee said. “It’s not ideal because adults may not respond the same as children would.”

This week in research history, we’re looking at the Equal Educational Opportunities Act that passed in 1974.

Building on the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the new legislation furthered the fight for educational equity that began far earlier than 1974.

Today, Kennesaw State University researchers from the Bagwell College of Education are examining the experiences of Black educators who taught within unequal school systems and advocated for their students, exploring what their work can teach us about education today and the challenges that remain.
