HER COLLECTION Magazine is officially live. Follow the link in our bio, pour your morning coffee and take your time with the Fall issue. Read it alone or share it with a friend.

“I didn’t think about failing. It was going to work.”

Those are Etheline Joseph’s words on our cover. Her story opens a new season for the magazine.

Inside, you’ll find women sharing their perspectives on culture, beauty, wellness, books, food, business, technology and community.

This is my first issue as Editorial Director. I’m grateful to Coach Janine Bowen for the foundation she built, to our contributors for the work and care they brought to these pages, and to the readers who return each season. You make it possible for us to keep collecting stories, connecting women and creating something together.

Come in. Turn a few pages. Stay for a story you didn’t expect.

In honour of International Literacy Day, observed on September 8, we asked three avid Bahamian readers to share book recommendations for anyone looking to get back into reading, discover a new favourite, or simply add something fresh to their reading lineup.

Established by UNESCO in 1966, International Literacy Day highlights literacy as a fundamental right and recognises the power of reading and writing to unlock opportunities and freedoms. Literacy can contribute to economic empowerment, better health choices, social inclusion, and more peaceful and sustainable societies.

This year’s theme, “Literacy for people, the planet and prosperity,” is a reminder that literacy extends far beyond the ability to read and write. It is also about having the tools to participate fully in our communities, express ourselves, access information, and shape the world around us.

For this special feature, Sasha, Zina and Gabriella share some of the books that have captured their attention. Gabriella, who is also the author of the Swimming Pugs children’s book series, is a strong advocate for reading and for the power of writing as a form of self-expression.

Their enthusiasm for books is a reminder that a love of reading can begin with something as simple as finding the right story. And while International Literacy Day gives us a reason to celebrate the readers and writers among us, it also offers an opportunity to consider how we can help make books, literacy resources and the joy of reading more accessible to others.

So, whether you are a lifelong book lover, someone trying to rediscover the habit of reading, or simply looking for your next great story, take a look at Sasha, Zina and Gabriella’s recommendations and find something that speaks to you.

A summer of BREEZE🌴

What started as an idea to create a wellness resource that felt like home has made its way across Jamaica, The Bahamas, and the wider Caribbean diaspora.

This summer, BREEZE was featured on Smile Jamaica, traveled back home to Jamaica for the Caribbean Mental Health Summit, was featured in Caribbean Collective Magazine, and made its way into the hands of Caribbean clinicians, creators, students, and communities.

But one of our favorite parts has been the people who believed in BREEZE enough to share it, partner with us, and help us create more space for Caribbean culture, creativity, faith, and wellness.

And this is only our first summer. 🇯🇲🇧🇸🌴

Thank you for making BREEZE part of your wellness journey. We can’t wait to see where it goes next.

There's nothing quite like a good book and a matcha on a sunny weekend. On Saturday, August 1, Tern Gallery, Baha Reads, and Oomami Matcha & Dumplings partnered for "Paper & Pour," a book exchange, art, and matcha event.

Check out the highlights.

The smell of the salt air. The rhythm of the waves. The laughter that carries a little farther when you’re surrounded by your people. The sunsets that never get old, no matter how many you’ve seen.

Growing up in The Bahamas, it’s easy to take these moments for granted. But every now and then, life slows down just enough to remind us that what we call “ordinary” is someone else’s dream.

Vida Cayo is our love letter to home. A reminder to explore more, appreciate more, and fall in love with The Bahamas all over again.

Because paradise isn’t just a destination.
For us, it’s home.

Some stories are too important to let disappear.

I filmed this in front of my grandmother Nola's Baked Crab, her first and only brick-and-mortar restaurant, because it reminded me how quickly places that once shaped our communities can become little more than memories.

I'm looking for factual information, photos, newspaper clippings, menus, and your memories of places like Father Allen's, Keith's, Red Baron, The Palm Tree, Dirty's, and of course Nola's Baked Crab. These weren't just restaurants. They were social spaces, cultural landmarks, and in many cases, places where history, community, and even politics unfolded over a plate of food.

Imagine if your favorite spot today became a complete mystery 20 years from now. Let's not allow that to happen.

If you know something, leave a comment, send me a DM, or share this with someone who might. Every story matters, and together we can help preserve a part of Bahamian food culture before it's gone for good.

Peace and flava.

Meet Tino Sands, the man behind Vida Cayo.

For Tino, Vida Cayo has always been about more than clothing. It’s about culture, identity, and the stories that make us who we are. It’s about continuing to tell those stories in a way that feels authentic, meaningful, and proudly Bahamian.

But now, the story is evolving.

Vida Cayo is shifting from being something visitors take home as a piece of The Bahamas, to becoming something Bahamian people can wear, connect with, and call their own.

Because our culture isn’t just something to be admired from the outside. It’s something we live, something we celebrate, and something we carry with us every day.

This is Vida Cayo. This is our story. And there’s so much more to tell.

Every Bahamian has a story.

Not just the big moments, but the little ones too, the stories shared on the porch, the sayings passed down from grandparents, the laughter over a pot of peas n’ rice, and the memories made by the sea.

At Vida Cayo, we believe our culture lives through the stories we tell and the ones we continue to pass on. They remind us where we come from, who we are, and why our Bahamian way of life is worth celebrating.

Because when we share our stories, we keep our culture alive.

In our final episode of the Independence Storytime Series, Sasha closes us out with a look at the history of storytelling in The Bahamas, and one more nod to Patricia Glinton-Meicholas, whose work keeps these old stories alive on the page.

This een the end of the stories, just the end of this season.

If you're just now tuning in, episodes 1 through 6 are waiting on the page, each episode features a guest storyteller who brought their own flavor to to the series. Catch up on what you missed, and stay close. Storytime will be back.
