When I first met Belizean born Jon Pablo the energy I sensed was motion. Wheel of Fortune card of the tarot type motion imbued with intent and purpose.

While sitting in a coffee shop parking lot I asked Jon over the phone what he was up to. He was on his 30 minute lunch break as a cook at Cobi’s in Santa Monica (@cobis.la). He told me he remembers helping in his mother’s restaurant kitchen back in Belize.

There’s passion in everything Jon does. We talked about finding a Penny board to use as a prop for our photo shoot. But not just any Penny board rather one identical to his sister’s when he first moved to Gardena California as a kid.

Eventually Jon would find himself skating with local legends the Crenshaw Skate Club (@crenshawskateclub). Skateboarding shaped who he became reflecting the passion driven work ethic behind everything he does.

But on the day of the shoot he didn’t bring a board but rather his fishing rods and reels. He told us which reel was his favorite and which lures catch the most fish.

While wearing a suit designed by Los Angeles based @ballads_etc sewn by @firmeatelier Jon casted his line off the edge of a floating fuel dock where another fisherman weighed a 150lb tuna he caught the night before.

Ayyyyyeee Aspen baby! A look back at our time at The Wine Bar for the F&W Aspen Classic. Big thanks to everyone who pulled up to sip, eat and kick it with us (over 800+ bites!) A LA minute…

This @ballads_etc collection believe it or not was inspired by my mom and my grandma. An homage to those who came to America believing in something bigger and crossed oceans carrying hope, sacrifice and the promise of a better life. We grew up believing hard work would be enough, only to learn reality was more complicated than the dream we were sold. I think of my grandma when I think about the American dream and how we were taught to believe in something bigger but ultimately had to learn instead how to believe in ourselves. A kind of resilience you can only inherit. So this one is dedicated to those who despite disillusionment continued to build, love and believe anyway.
