POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

As we celebrate Refugee Week, we’re proud to share the stories of the women who make up Women of the Well.
Each journey is unique. Each story is different. Yet they are connected by resilience, courage, determination, and the desire to build a meaningful future.
Today’s story is Mary Deng’s.
Her journey began in a refugee camp. Today, she is part of a thriving community, contributing through her work, relationships, culture, and commitment to creating opportunities for others.
At Women of the Well, we believe Refugee Week is not only a time to reflect on where people have come from, but also to celebrate what they continue to contribute to their communities every day.
It is a celebration of strength.
A celebration of belonging.
A celebration of opportunity.
And a celebration of the many stories that help shape our community.
This Friday, we look forward to opening our doors and celebrating together.

❤️ A Sewing Machine, A Dream, and a Community ❤️
Six years ago, we sat behind a sewing machine with a dream. Stitch by stitch, apron by apron, that dream began to grow.
Today, Women of the Well is more than a shop. More than a market stall. It is a place where people gather, stories are shared, cultures are celebrated, and friendships are formed.
Every apron we create and every basket we share carries a story of culture, creativity, resilience, and hope. Our handmade aprons have been lovingly crafted by women over the past six years, while our beautiful Ghanaian baskets are woven from elephant grass by skilled artisans, preserving traditions passed down through generations.
What touches our hearts most is not simply the products we sell, but the connections we make. The conversations at our market stall. The customers who return year after year. The friendships that begin over a basket, an apron, or a shared story.
We would like to sincerely thank our local community and the organisers of the Ballarat Farmers Market, The Bridge Market, Creswick Market, and Talbot Farmers Market. These markets have given us the opportunity to connect, grow, share our culture, and be part of something bigger than ourselves.
When you support Women of the Well, you are supporting local makers, traditional craftsmanship, community connection, and women working together to create something meaningful.
Whether you’ve been part of our journey for years or are meeting us for the first time, thank you for being part of our community.
✨ We’d love to meet you.
Visit us at the markets, pop into our shop at 107 Sturt Street, Ballarat, or browse our collection online through the link in our bio.
Come and say hello.
Come and hear our story.
Come and share yours.
Because at Women of the Well, every apron, every basket, and every conversation helps bring people together. And in a world that can often feel disconnected, that matters more than ever.
❤️ Thank you for supporting local.
❤️ Thank you for supporting community.
❤️ Thank you for being part of our journey.
With gratitude,
Mary Top & Mary Deng
